Ridesharing in Ireland

Currently sitting in Dublin airport because my flight was delayed and I missed the last bus to Sligo, next one at 07:40, been here just over an hour and I'm contemplating walking.

Did a Google on ridesharing in Ireland and got very little, with a less than optimal public transport network you would think it'd be more popular. If I had my car and knew someone was stuck I think I'd have no problem helping them if I was going the same direction. Not that I'd ever know when services like that aren't really popular.

Maybe a bull**** thread, I've been awake 23 hours now.

    PS, anyone heading to Sligo?

Got any cash to check into a local hotel, Rizzo?
I know it's only a 5 hour wait vs spending a few bob. but you said yourself you've been up 23 hours.

I do, and could get it back from work possibly, but even now it'll prob take close to an hour between getting can/check in to hotel/ get to room etc, then 30 mins to an hour to get out of hotel and back to get bus, I want to get down early so we're talking lying in bed for 3 hours. I'm not into wasting money even if it's not my own.

Where do I sign up for this? I will need to see pictures first. I don't want to be put in an awkward position with a 2/10.

LightsStillOn will be happy to give your a reacharound, I'm guessing you'll need to tell him to bring his tweezers though. Wouldn't want to get caught short, if you know what I mean. Pun intended.

Ahh sure if your plan is to get back to Sligo early then no point of a hotel.

Fair play for trying, you never know there could be someone but the odds are against you OP.

Your flight was delayed, you arrived in late and there was no way of getting back, surely work does not expect you to stand around the airport all night considering your flight was cancelled?

I wouldn't miss out on a nights sleep after you've been travelling so long, you will be wrecked for days to come.

Why not get checked in to a hotel and get a proper nights sleep and a later bus in the morning.

Maybe thats just me I wouldn't be waiting around all night because I didn't want to put it in as an expense its not worth it.

All good points but I have two dogs at home and the missus is away, plus work to catch up on and some biking to do if I have time. Was really looking to get home tonight. I know it's a dead loss now but I want to hit the first bus in the morning, even at that it's 3 hours more before I'm home. Don't fancy leaving it later.

Yeah dogs at home would be a deciding factor.

at least you have the internet to keep you entertained.

Just found out that the train leaves 20 minutes later than the bus but gets there 40 minutes earlier. Mind made up, sleep in airport until 6:30 and head for the train. Sleep on train. Hopefully not on some poor dolls shoulder.

Possibly because we don't call it ridesharing.

I'm not sure you realise how good Google's searches are.

That and scabbingalift.ie threw up a dead link.

Yes, this is kind of the thing, but the comments are pretty low, and the fb page hasn't been updated in months, that's what I mean, I guess there really isn't a demand for it in Ireland.

    Nevertheless I'm home!!!

Hi, couldn't find another thread to ask this. I am a mature student and this September I will be commencing a 3 year course at DCU. I will be travelling from Balbriggan to DCU and back from Monday to Friday possibly from 8am to 5pm. I am hoping to take a couple of passengers on board who can contribute to fuel costs. I;'d like to hear from anyone who is interested. Thank you.

Well if your on Facebook I know at least five groups for carshare two of them being festival ones too.

    Car Share, Lift Share.

Getting to where you need to be.

    Irish Festival Carpooling.

    Festival Hopping.

    Hitch a lift in Ireland.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Ridesharing? How American can you get. It's lifts here, lifts!! Riding has different connotations altogether and now I'm disappointed.

I see at least three Americans looking for rides. I see Irish people looking for lifts.
