I just think any savings the gte will have on tax/fuel will be overcome with heavier depreciation. Could well be wrong and circumstances will be different for different drivers. Driving on all electric mode is nice though but it wouldn't tempt me over, yet.

Residual values on GTE's seem as strong as any other Golf model, if you can actually find one for sale. There are only 3 on carzone that are all 2017 demos. Are any EV's or hybrids depreciating heavily, from any brand?

They are quite impressive off the line, with more torque than the GTD on tap from standstill and they are only a second slower to 100kmh than a GTi, I know an inch is a mile in that regard, but still.

Electric only range is a bit crap at 50kms from a full charge, which takes around 4 hours but for a city dweller etc it may be acceptable.

Maybe gte is doing ok in that regard. I haven't looked at them online. Just know I was looking at 330e from BMW and at the time last year seemed like decent value with all the grants. Decent performance refinement and economy in one car, but a few posters saying that 2nd hand ones now can be picked up for substantially less than new if importing from UK. Same with any new car I really.

Too old for a GTI? Don't think that's possible

I'm most probably one of the older lads on here, and I'm seriously thinking about an R for 181 after my current GTI.

Your never to old for a bit of fun in your life :D

I see they are launching a Performance Pack for the R now. No performance gains to the engine but upgrades to the brakes, exhaust system and tyres making the car a bit lighter and more track focused.

You mean the one that's been around for a while, at least in other markets? Its the Akrapovic exhaust (mental money) and the brakes fitted to the Clubsport S.

Just priced up a 5 door dsg with same spec I had. Rrp is now €49.5k. Significant jump in less than 2 years. I see the 5k exhaust on there too, tis madness I tell ye.

Ya, my car would come in at around 52.5k. That's roughly a 3.5k hike since July 2015.
The 5k for the exhaust is just the exhaust too by the looks of it. Doesn't include the brakes upgrade or any other bits and pieces it seems. Nuts.

No idea, here is the article, and yeah autocar is bit of a tabloid car magazine:

That's the one. It's been available since the facelift first launched (or very soon after)... in the UK and other Euro markets at least.

So the full "pack" is - the titanium exhaust, Clubsport S front brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport tyres on the Pretoria wheels, speed limiter deleted, small lip rear spoiler extension.

Trouble is - it's eye wateringly expensive on what's already a very expensive Golf. On the Irish configurator it has the exhaust as a 5k option alone - no mention of the other bits. If the 5k included all the items listed above it would still be very expensive!

For anyone speccing a performace golf, here's another reason not to drop an extra €933.71 on the Discover Pro naviagaion versus the Discover Media:

They seem to no longer be able to offer Google Earth functionality.

I would have thought you could get this via Android Auto anyway???

At a Skoda dealer here and the infotainment system on the new cars in the showroom is very slick.

Yeah well kicking tyres, it's not big enough unfortunately but a fine car no doubt. Looking at what 7 seaters are out there just. Citroen in the lead at the minute for us.

You fellas in your GTi and Rs don't know what you're missing. 3 isofix in this thing, some job :(

They should give a discount coupon for the snip when you buy a hot hatch. So you know you're buying your future freedom as well. :pac:

Only really gave you satellite image overlay on the maps didn't it? The Google Maps are definitely much better via Android Auto in a navigation and style point of view, but I do find myself using the in-built nav quite a bit for the sheer convenience and for having the directions available to me on the dash. The fact that Android Auto doesn't integrate with the systems of the car is quite annoying. I imagine it's worse again on the newer models with the active dash as well.

I drove a Passat with the active dash and it just goes blank when running Google maps through Android auto. Can have it displaying other useless info instead but just maps on the radio screen not the dash.

Been through that period in my life of car seats, buggies etc.
A used high spec ford s max would win over a Citroen for me. Actually a genuinely nice car to drive, at least the previous model was.

Thank god I kept my mark v - nearly ten years old Mrs Kooga does the big moving.

    Ironically mark 5 has isofix

I don't really get the R estate. It's a bit ungainly looking and a bit of an odd combo. I'd start looking up to some nice premium 6 cyl estate if I wanted more space despite a big jump in cash.

What's the uplift in power please? And what cost- not only for the job but also the insurance?

A gain of at leat 50bhp. I can't answer the other two questions, you would need to talk to George for the retail price and your own insurance company.

Apologies if this has been asked before but I am very tempted to order a new GTI - love the look and feel of the new Mk7.5 - I literally can't get my mind off it :o

I spoke to a dealer after a test drive and was quoted around €42-43k for one with the options I want (DSG, tech pack & keyless entry + alarm). What discount should I be looking for minimum off that price?

Also I like the look of the standard Milton Keynes alloys but was considering an upgrade to the 19" Brescias, I think they look savage. Would the 19s affect the ride quality at all? I'd leave it tbh if it makes the ride harder.

The model below looks the business, I was thinking Indium Gray for the colour but the white seems well suited:
