I'm in no way a saint in this thread I can hold my hands up there, however I've baited nobody I've said out clearly what I think wether for good or ill.

I'm glad you think the mabs.ie link was a beaut I hope it helped you out with finding that euro a month you seem so upset over, so you know silver linings and all.

I’ll have no more to say on this so I’ll leave it with this- you namechecked three posters, myself included, in one post, and in your next accused the Xbox heads of stirring. If that’s not attempting to bait, I’m not sure what is.

Thanks for the mabs link, but luckily I’m not stuck for a Euro- this has nothing to do with the cost- it’s principle over price, and if you can’t understand why that angers some folk then you may need to wake up a small bit-as I said previously, if Microsoft tacked on another tenner per annum I’d call that out too. None of us want price increases on anything, across all walks of life, but if it has to happen then it should be justifiable and not just because.

This is exactly the same as sky TV. They have an essentially captive audience that they don't respect, so jack up the prices as and when they see fit. This is how you are paying for your exclusive content in destiny and other games. And also how you're subsidising their first party games (which are great, no denying, yet still hardly covering their budgets). This is the same as sky paying mad money for soccer and US TV shows to shut out their competition, then spreading the cost across their total userbase, regardless of whether or not they take advantage of said content.

Looks like i am lucky i skipped the last 20 pages.

I dont even play the games but will pay the extra money. Its an acceptable increase even though i question their servers that keep getting DDOS'd.

It's the time of digital hoarding, gimme them games i will never play ;) too late now to back out, I'm in too deep.

Im not arguing with your point in principle but price hikes happen all over the place for no reason. Nobody wants a price hike but its how the world functions supply and demand. Its a basic business function if they can make more money and lose a few customers they will always take the money option to the few customers.
So ya it doesnt have to be justifiable, it only has to be justifiable to the shareholders. Gaming is still a business after all
I see they have two big games this month, if they continue with that well it will be well worth the tenner

Its nothing to do with respecting a audience, its a very basic business model you are talking about. A quick google and you would understand this is the best way to keep everyone happy, have one package slightly more expensive leads to the other one being more affordable. Basic economics buddy

Indeed, this price increase is certainly keeping everyone happy.

Am happy to pay a fiver a month for the online service. The games are a bonus, and there's the odd gem in there that'd I'd never have tried without the service.

This thread is just rinse and repeat.

Shur the sub will be on sale from time to time so it might make no real difference.

I'm pretty happy to spend the extra euro, having benefited greatly from free games and discounts since it started, on the PS3.
I know the PS+ is a subscription, that the games I've gotten "free" are not my property but can be withdrawn should I stop paying.
    But...
I have a pretty decent collection now of games that cost me very little.
Many of them transferred over onto my PSP, Vita and PS4.

No one holds a gun up to our heads, making us pay up.

If it's not offering value then don't pay.
If it does, then pay it.

The subscription for online privileges is a drag, but only the PC is free and even there, for MO titles you'll pay a subscription or micro transactions will take care of that for you.

Think there was a rumour going around that they are going to include ps now with plus in some fashion.

It would make more sense to provide some sort of package for those who want both.
PS+ is going to be Netflix for your console, but be aware that like Netflix, the available content will be curated, and the games you want to play may not be on the menu.
Outrun 2/2006 Coast 2 Coast is a good example, following the loss of the Ferrari licence from Sega, means no more sliding thrills on Sony platforms unless you own the PS2/PSP version, or downloaded it when it was available, everyone else can go s*&k a goat, apparently.

Look at how much NOW cost on it's own, and the fact that most Countries in Europe don't currently get it.

If we did then it'd likely not be the full sub library, but perhaps just the monthly games accessible with NOW assuming we'll.

    Just stack it now lads.

I saw on Reddit that with PS Now, there's queue's to use the service. Feck that for a bag of ****e.

If its wrapped into PS+ and they upgrade the servers to lessen that kind of stuff, fair enough though.

I'm sure many will be sickened by being forced to pay for a third service in PS+, being online play, the games, and PS Now.

cant you set up a us account on your ps4 and use ps now from there, i have a us account as well to grab deals etc, and it was an option to buy/sub, I just had no real interest in it, honestly dont see the appeal of all these ps2 era games etc.

also this is just an increase, like its hardly even going to pull in enough to set up new servers etc.

this is just a cash grab pure and simple.

my argument is not that sony are right to do it, its that i dont care enough about 1 euro a month to moan about it, the time it would take to make an issue of it is worth more to me than the euro.
also i get my value and more from psn as it is, so i dont mind too much.

as for saying xbox is better, maybe it is i havent had an xbox since the 360, but that makes little difference to most of the people on this forum as they dont have an xbox, its like seeing diesel is going up in price and saying well petrol is better anyway, and hasn't increased in ages.

You haven't stopped moaning about the euro for what, 3 days now?

Is that even aimed at me? Most of it is unrelated to what I said

I'd say there's quite a few people on Boards that have Xbox and PS4. Prices of both consoles have come down and it's great for gamers.

I love having both consoles (PS for exclusives and Live for online) and been getting great value from both.

If you could spare us the condescending pat on the head and break down your reason for thinking the price hike is a good idea, that' be great, rather than behaving like you're the only enlightened one who understands it all. And btw, telling me to go google it doesn't cut the mustard either.

    Maybe google it :pac:
Explaining the price hike, here it goes buy a freddo five years ago and then flash forward to modern day and buy one.
OMFG they have gone up in price, what could have cost this phenom, how would I ever explain this
I will give you a hint, it sounds like sinflation
I kinda wish it was like Zaire or Germany after the world war, with a raise to 400 euros now that would be a fun day in the ps plus thread

    Mod note:

Folks, keep it civil and no personal attacks please.

There is no problem with people criticising Sony - they are a corporation with profits at heart, and often deserve plenty of criticism. We will never discourage people from saying what they think. We will, as always, keep an eye if anyone is being overly negative for malicious or trolling purposes and take action if/when required.

Obviously this is a divisive topic, but please just keep it amiable. Whether you agree, disagree or are indifferent to the hike, no need to be at each other's throats about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,166 ✭✭✭Beefy78

Tbf I don't think anyone agrees with the hike. Like I'm pretty sure everyone would prefer it to be cheaper than more expensive!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,549 ✭✭✭jcd5971

I'd like if my rent stayed the same and my shopping and my bills and my new car last year i'd prefer if that was cheaper for sure.

but we live in the real world things go up that's capitalism.

nobody WANTS it to be more expensive, just some of us don't mind too much and kind of expected it, especially considering the service has moved along nicely from what it was even a few years ago.

then you have the free games whilst not for everyone, myself included if i`m being honest. They are a nice little bonus and even my self who only gets the odd game out of it find it a nice bonus.

for those insisting xbox offer better online service with games for gold and better servers.
I will hold my hands up and say that i am not familiar with the servers on microsoft's side so if you dual console guys are adamant its better then i'll take your word for it.

however as for games with gold last year the handed out free games to the value of €791 euros whilst psn handed out free games totaling €978 in 2016.

many will point out that xbox have better quality games on their side, personally speaking i don't concur with that statement but am happy to debate that separately. however I do think that this figure points to the strides the service on psn has made in recent times.

really i suppose it comes down to value, considering i paly mainly always online games, almost every day i`m happy enough at this price point.
If your a person who games online rarely or for short durations, then the value proposition isn't there for you. neither side can reasonably claim that the other is incorrect as its all personal preference at the end of the day.

personally id have preferred a larger increase to the subscription cost, with the caveat that these funds would have been invested in the infrastructure of the network as it is still at times a bit cumbersome despite the recent improvements.

What's the story with stacking PS+ subs? You can just buy a couple when they're cheap and they extend your subscription?

Yeah, just buy them and they will be added to the end of your current subscription.
