What happens if you fail final year or drop out?

    Completely hypothetical here:

I study BESS and am going into final year. If I dropped out now would I receive any form of degree? What if I registered and then just didn't sit final exams? ie. Fail the exams. - would I receive an ordinary degree or diploma?

Used to be 'ordinary degree' if you've successfully got through three years, but that may have changed. Best bet is to find the current calendar on the TCD website and search the PDF for relevant terms.

I don't know if it's the same for all courses, but for my course (Science) you received an ordinary degree if you leave after 3 years. One person in my year did that and they graduated with us, so that was nice.

If you're doing a BA(Mod) course - which covers most undergraduate courses in Trinity - and successfully complete three years, it used to be (and I think still is) the case that you can get an ordinary BA. This wasn't necessarily the case if your primary degree was not a BA(Mod).

(It's worth noting that on the job market an ordinary BA is about as valuable as a marietta biscuit. If you can complete the B(Mod) at all you should do so.)

Unrelated.. but what happens in 4th year if you are more than 30 minutes late during finals? Lets say your bus didn't come or there was a huge traffic jam and you live far away from Trinity.

What happens if you're more than 30mins late during 1st/2nd/3rd year exams?

If you're an idiot like me who missed an exam once thinking it was an afternoon one, when it was a morning one, the college don't give a single ****.

I learnt my lesson the hard way by re-sitting the exam in August (which I ended up getting a first in anyway but I doubt that counts for **** when someone sees 're-assess at supplementals' on my transcript) but they're under no obligation to do anything more than host the exam and deliver the papers to lecturers really.

I'm guessing I'd be getting an ordinary degree for missing the exam. Better not get an exam at 9:30 am at RDS cause I wont be able to sleep that night. Probably going to rent a room at some hotel or something close to RDS just so I wont be missing the morning exam

Nah like you could re-sit at supplementals if they allow, or else repeat the year. It's highly unlikely it'd ever happen, unless you're a complete dope like me last year.
