Level, why would you want one side higher than the other?

We'd a side mounted 8ft Major. Ran it with the lift level and worked A1.

I've one and see the merit in the question...the far skid hits the ground when u lift the topper.

I shorten the top link but the skids are level on the ground. I also don't leave down the arms fully as in the be no weigh,t pull or drag on the topper.my lift arms would be level but i could see some merit in the right one slightly raised to help lift the far skid.

I have just replaced the blades in an old 8' side mounted Major topper. It is probably around 30 yrs old . ( The model before a hydraulic ram was fitted for putting in cutting position ) There are 4 blades on the topper , 2 on each gearbox . The new blades are hitting each other . Have any of you had this problem and what is the cause. Any info appreciated . Thanks

Gearbox shafted is bent i imagine. Could take a piece of the end of the blades with the grinder if not wanting to spend the money on fixing if 30 Yr old

The rotors are supposed to be 90 degrees to each other. Ie when one is pointing forward/back direction the other should be pointing left/right.
They do not interfere with each other.

By any chance was the drive shaft between the gear boxes taken off and put on again in the wrong splines. Or was the rotor removed and bolted on again 90 degrees from where it was originally

Are the blades the same shape as old ones? did you put one set on upside down? Can you disconnect pto from tractor and spin rotors by hand and see what is happening? The blades should be free to rotate where they are attached to rotor, did you leave out any spacer and overtighten?

Can you send on a photo showing the configuration of the blades. Likely out of sync. It should be possible to open some bolts with a impact drill and move the configuration of one set of blades and bolts. Have had similar issue here with an old mower used now for topping.

    Slightly off topic.

What oil should be used in the gearbox of a topper ? Have a Wylie semi offset and she is popping shear bolts, might be due an oil change

I will get some photos. The PTO shaft between the 2 gearboxes is a solid piece of metal and not removable . I presume a gearbox has to be removed to get it off . The front and back blades are not set at 90 * to eachother . How would they have gotten out of synch ? Is it a big job to get the to 90* when the shaft between them is solid

There should be splined shaft coming down from each gearbox. The rotor can be taken off here and repositioned. See if these shafts are damaged

That happened to An abbey trailed topper we had . Kept losing its sync. We adjusted the rubber donut coupler at the start tgen realised she was slipping on the gearbox

The rubber drive doughnut coupling is broken on the topper. Hopefully this can be bought someplace other than Major . They charged me almost €30 each for the blades and now I see something very similar online for €8. The last time I was looking for blades I was told that only Major had the correct blades for their topper

I assume they are all the same. Your local agri parts place should be able to order them.
