Thurles nearly a sell out, on Wednesday. I can't wait. Really feeling strangely confident. The sun will shine, the rebels will hurl and hopefully 2 Munster titles on the trip home.

You can't beat the lead up to a double Munster hurling final in Thurles. You can picture the square, filled with glorious red and white, with a sprinkling of another colour, bottles of bulmers by the thousands, the odd chant and then the walk......the bobbing heads all going in one direction, the one car trying in vain to go the other way, picking up a bottle of water( because you know how hoarse you will be) the heat of the thousands around you rising slowly until Cork take to the field and the Eruption takes place....oh I can't wait!!

I dont care what anyone says bar AI final the next best thing is a Munster Hurling final.

If my mother tongue is shaking the foundations of your state, it probably means you built your state on my land.

Would be great to go back to the sell out days more permanently. God be with the days youd see absolutely stuffed grounds. Nothing like looking at a packed stadium full of colour. Fact is though that families are sadly priced out of these events. Not exactly the GAA's fault because they have costs too and insurance is a biggy these times

The proposed round robin changes will knock a bit off attendances too imo

I think the days of sell outs disappeared with straight knock out. Economic factors will obviously play into it, as will the fact that the majority of games are on TV these days.
People don't really feel a need to go to a first round championship game as they know there will be another day out. No offence to the likes of Laois or Westmeath but they wouldn't draw a crowd either in a qualifier game.

Prices inflated quite a bit since the early noughties though. i remember Waterford v Cork used draw huge attendances when that rivalry was in full tilt. Arguably though when it was a Munster final such as 03 and 04. As you said the back door has affected peoples decisions in terms of attending the earlier round games and as zetecescort said, the round robin system will affect it further. Not sure they work with hurling to be honest.

I see the draw was made for the ladies football qualifiers, Cork got the toughest possible one in Monaghan. to be played on the first weekend of August

If anyone can negotiate a tough draw its the greatest women's side of all time. That said though Rena Buckley is a serious loss.

That is the draw we didn't want, they will have to put in a full shift to get out of there with a win.

I'm nearly more excited for the minor final! What a team they are. Stadium should be nearly full at 2pm.

Hopefully the two games v Tipp hasnt taken too much out of them and they play to their potential.

I think even if they dont win Sunday they will go on and win out the All ireland. That said, Clare beat a very very good Limerick team and Kilkenny always have a few good lads too. You never really know with minors but it does look like a very very good Cork crop and that win after a two game battle will do them world of good

I'd like to see that youngfella O'Leary from Valley get a good run out, saw him play a few times and he's a fine hurler, big and strong with some great skill.

Any hear Jamesie O'Connor on sky sports after the KK/Waterford game?

He said that because Waterford won, it heaps pressure on the Cork team tomorrow as if we lose we have to play Waterford or Tipp.

I burst out laughing! Not saying I would love to play them again at all just that I don't think Cork would fear either team. No matter what happens they will always be tough and close.

Just thought it was some kind of poor attempt at mind games!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,247 ✭✭✭✭rebel girl 15

The way he put it across was a bit silly, but he does have a point - doesn't change the pressure though.

Having beaten both of them already is motivation enough for either Waterford or Tipp, but if Cork lose, then it is trying to turn around the disappointment to play a team on a winning run. I'd prefer to win tomorrow

    Sully v Ogie - interesting!

The air smells that bit sweeter on Munster hurling final day. Hon the rebels.
