One odd thing happened to me in 2014, probably nothing but I cant explain it.

I was just finished work and heading out for a few pints, I got into the shower and when finished went into my room to get dressed, it was just darkening outside, but just bright enough to see. I walked to my wardrobe, there was a load of crap on the floor, including things that would hurt, plugs etc, so I tiptoed over to the wardrobe around the mess careful not to stab myself in the foot!

Im rooting through the wardrobe and as the light was fading, I was struggling to see clearly, I could see when I went into the room but it had gotten to the point of needing the light on since I had walked in. Now, I remember looking into the wardrobe and struggling to see properly, in a hurry and a little frustrated, I glanced at the light switch, the light came on and I went about picking clothes.

About 40mins later in the taxi I realized I hadnt actually turned on the light. I would have remembered shuffling around the objects on the floor and trying not to fall over something and killing myself! I would have had to be careful going across the room and I would have remembered it! I also remember looking into the wardrobe, sticking my head out and looking at the switch very quickly and then looking back into the wardrobe! With the light on!

I have tried numerous times to recreate the event but I am convinced I have super powers!!

I did not cross the room to turn on that light!!!

I thanked your post but I was really only thanking those 4 words!

If I ever need a lamp turned on in a hurry I'll know who to call. Super Ardinn, faster than the speed of light!

The cardiac arrest lady died. The doctor is a very logical fella and said he never believed in ghosts or the like but he was pretty traumatised after that for a while.

Was driving home from my mothers one day. While at the lights a car came up behind me. As I went on he seemed to following a bit close. Any closer he'd have been in my boot.

After a bit of this I decide to pull in and let him pass.

I pull in. He pulls in 2 spaces behind. I wait, smoke a cig to see if he'll leave. Nope.

I take off again to a roundabout that brought me back in the opposite direction and sure enough there he is right behind me.

Getting a bit freaked but thinking I'm being paranoid so I drive around at random, totally aimlessly with no destination in mind. And sure enough there he is. Right behind me. At every turn.

After about 20 minutes of this I decide to head to a local Garda station. A last minute lane change by me got him caught on a slip road heading left while I was heading right.

While we were waiting at the lights we were pretty much parallel. I buzzed down the passenger window and indicated he do the same. He did and I asked him "Are you following me ? What are you up to ?" etc etc.

He just looked at me, not saying a word, till the lights changed. He had to go left, me right.

Freaked me out for a bit.

Strange but True? is a British Paranormal documentary television show that aired on ITV from 21 May 1993 to 7 November 1997 and is hosted by Michael Aspel. Wikipedia

Do people remember this show? It scared the bejaysus put of me when i was 9/10 years of age? Stories from all over the world. At 32 years of age i am genuinely afraid to go in and watch any if them in YouTube.
Some of you might and report back!

Maybe more co-incidental than creepy, but it creeped me out.

I sometimes have to man the call centre in work. Yesterday, was chatting with a man, and after the call ended, looked up Facebook on my phone, in between calls. Some of my friends had shared a missing person's appeal on their walls.

And the name, age profile, and area all matched the man I was just talking to...

Tried all the phone numbers attached to the appeal, none answered, so I eventually rang the Gardai. They told me he was no longer on the missing list, so he must have been found.

As I say, coincidence, but it gave me a fair jump!

Having a nice little read of the last few pages in this thread and decided to share a story or 2 from work collegues.

I work in an old hospital.

    ...
I'm a non believer and like to find a logical explanation for everything but have often witnessed machines picking up heart readings and oxygen levels when leads are not connected or machines turning on and off again.

There's a couple of things that make me a bit nervous of this story - it may be worth (if you're in a position to recommend it) getting the electrics checked, there may be minor surges or a fraying wire somewhere that's causing odd jolts and machines to pick them up. That it's an old building with sections closed down/unused makes me more suspicious of it. That could get dangerous.

I got nothing for the rest of it, you have some weird stuff going on there!

    Does anyone know of St. Kevin's in Cork? It's part of the group of sanatorium buildings up on Summerhill, the main part (St. Anne's/St. Ita's) is now Atkins Hall. St Kevin's is a grim redbrick building off to the side of it and it is beyond creepy as a place. I'm not particularly a believer, but that building has always given me the serious "bad place" vibes. A group of friends went into it (paranormal society - and no, they shouldn't have been in there!), including one that is a truthful and down-to-earth sort that told me of their experiences in there. I don't recall all of it, but some points that I do remember;

The first and second floors were littered with rubbish and needles, graffiti tagging, etc. Above the third floor, which is where they had most of their weird experiences, there was nothing. It was like people just didn't want to go up there or sleep up there. It's set up as a long hall with stairs at either end, so two routes up and down on each floor. They oriented themselves by the images or marks on the wall on each floor. Each floor had some specific marker - there was a cross at the stairwell from one floor, three pictures on the wall of floor 3, etcetera.

All of them described an odd sense of disorientation when they entered, particularly as they moved up the building. They danced around the word explaining it, but they were having the feeling of madness, although it's also explainable by nerves and possibly sick building syndrome. But although it was laid out in a very straight-forward way, they did find themselves getting confused by it.

They split up for a bit, two of the group including friend who I'll call B going up to the floor above (third floor) and that's when things started getting very strange. B and friend entered a room off the corridor on floor 3 and saw a bottle of air freshener (or something) that they'd seen on the floor below on the same table, etc. Furthermore, it appeared to be exactly the same room. Annoyingly, and I've been trying to remember what exactly happened but I can't. Something about calling a friend up from below, hearing him walking on the corridor on the second floor and then entering the room from the second floor.

A group including B continued on to the top floor, the fourth, entering rooms cautiously one by one down the corridor when one of them spotted a dark shape moving down at the far end. It resolved itself into a male figure, who just stood and stared at them. Thinking it might be one of the rest of the group, they called to him, but he made no response and continued watching them. Then he started moving down the corridor towards them and they decided not to wait to see if he was a random junkie, they scarpered. As they legged it down the stairs from 4 to 3, they noted the three pictures on the wall arranged in a triangle that was the decoration in that stairwell and continued down to the second - which had the three pictures on the wall again. Somehow, they'd gone from the third floor to the second and ended up on the third again. Note - it does not appear from the outside that there is five floors on one side and four on the other, even though it is built on a hill.

They got as far as the entrance to the NO ENTRY basement level which was very solidly barred from the outside (albeit accessible). Their nerves failed them on that point and I don't blame them a bit!

I wish I could tell that story better, but I've forgotten too much of it. It creeped me the hell out at the time though and I wouldn't go in there (I'm a wuss, yes). But as far as I know, while St Annes and St Itas are being revived and turned into flats, no-one's touching St. Kevin's despite it only being abandoned since 2002. It has an ill reputation and a grim history of cruelty and neglect.

My husband works in a hospital and one day he was chatting to an elderly patient. She told my husband she'd just been talking to his grandad (who's been dead for years, they were very close). He told her his grandad was dead for years and she proceeded to tell him what his grandads name was, first and middle name. And some other stuff that was quite specific to him.
There was no way she could have known him or even that my husband was related to him. Freaked my husband out.

I have had a few different experiences when I was younger involving my grandparents who had died. Some might say I had an overactive imagination but I'm not sure. The first one I remember was my Mam's dad. He had died before I was born so never met him. Now I can't remember was this a dream or real life because I was so young but I was sitting in the kitchen at home on my own and all of a sudden he walked into the kitchen down the hall from the sitting room. I recognised him from photos I had seen obviously. He said a few bits to me and off he went again.
Next was my Mam's mother. On the day she died we had come home from my Aunt's where she had died. I was walking upstairs to my room and was passing my bedroom to go to the bathroom and looked in. And there she was standing at the bookcase in my room with a book in her hand and just looked out at me. Needless to say I ran down stairs again straight away and told my Mam. My mam would often say she sees things too. The night her mother died (same woman at the bookcase) she was ironing in the kitchen and in the reflection of the window she saw a shadow moving behind her. Obviously there was nobody there when she turned around.
Last grandparent I saw was my Dad's dad. About a week after he died we were heading in holidays. My grandparents lived in the other side of our house. We were after pulling out the gate in the car and Dad was locking the gate. I looked up to where our grandparents bedroom was and there was my grandad looking out the window down at the car.
And typing this I just remembered a few weeks ago driving in the gate at home I was looking in the kitchen window and someone who I thought was my mother looked out at me and got up from the table. I couldn't see properly because if the reflection in the sunlight. I waved anyway thinking it was my mam. Went into the kitchen and said hello to my mother who was there and she said she never heard me coming in. Obviously I said but sure you just saw me coming in. She was at the kitchen counter with her back to the window making the lunch. It wasn't her anyway at the table she said! So I've had a few experiences.

I'm a non believer and like to find a logical explanation for everything but have often witnessed machines picking up heart readings and oxygen levels when leads are not connected or machines turning on and off again. Also in 2 particular rooms confused patients always talking to a Mary and asking her to sit down and asking us to get Mary a cup of tea. Was always the same 2 rooms and always the name Mary.... that was definitely one I could never explain....

    This is interesting.
Mary obviously could be the Virgin Mary.
Maybe the room had a religious feel to it (were there religious icons around) inducing the feeling in those patients to appeal to Mary.

Also this reminded me of Jung and the four archetypal women: Eve, Mary, Helen, Sophia.
Representing youth, virginity, beauty and wisdom iirc.
These are ingrained in story (the collective unconscious) and in a state if delirium i could well imagine these may come to the fore (especially if prompted by cues in the environment).

Jung was a very interesting guy straddling the scientific (he was a doctor obviously) and the mystical. Maybe reading some of him might shed light on this stuff.

Then again, Mary is a common name. And maybe there's no more to it than that.

Had a few odd experiences that could not be described as paranormal just inexplicable.

July a few years back I was in my bedroom and had a view of my window. Clear, sunny day. First floor of the house. Houses nearby seemed to be on holiday, so things were quiet. Suddenly notice a strange, small object bobbing up and down slowly over the roof of the house across the road. It was small like a handheld camera and even had a string hanging off it. Almost like a silver, cylindrical pellet. But it was actually flying through the air and slowly like it was guiding itself. Few seconds later I see birds flying in the opposite direction, as if disturbed. Never seen anything like that since.

Being quite serious here, that one honestly sounds as though it might have been a drone.

    great thread!

the only story I have of relevance happened on an "all nighter" myself and a friend pulled when we were about 15. We told our parents we were staying at each other's house for the night and then stayed out just to see how the place looked overnight.

As you can imagine it was a pretty uneventful evening just wandering around in the darkness for the most part. We live in Dublin so it wasn't like we had empty fields or woods or anything a bit mysterious to explore. It was just housing estate after housing estate.

Then, as we wandered through a small park we heard really intense, scary howling. Like a woman who had just received some terrible news or something. The noise came from a street with plenty of houses so we wandered down to find the source. The sound died down for the most part and just as we got to it it made the loudest, most terrifying, blood-curdling scream I'd ever heard.

We immediately turned and ran. The tone of the wailing and the proximity sent a jolt through the two of us to the point that we didn't even have to talk about running, without a word we just bolted.

We speculated at the time that it was a banshee or something along those lines and that kept me awake for awhile after. looking back now it was probably just a cat in a very painful situation!

We once had a stray cat give birth in our back garden in the middle of the night, dear god its a sound you don't forget! Especially when you've no idea what the hell you're hearing. Wasn't until we were doing some gardening the next day that mama cat jumped out of a bush at my mother and we found the kittens. I'd say cats are reason behind a lot of banshee myths.

    Edit: Foxes too maybe

Must admit to my guilty pleasure of watching that on youtube sometimes... It's more creepy/unnerving rather than super scary! (can also be somewhat cheesy at times too!) :D

When I was a kid of 10 I used to go to the shop for some of the elderly people in the estate. Usually just to get them milk and bread etc. There was one particular lady who used to always make a point of once a week going to the shop by herself to buy me a comic. Anyway she was a lovely woman and i got on very well with her.

One night I had a dream that she died during the night and the ambulance arrived to take her away. Could see the stretcher with a sheet over the body. Anyway I got up the next morning for school and there was the ambulance outside her house. Went outside and her body was being put into the ambulance.

    What a brilliant thread!

My only real story I can think of is fairly recent (Maybe about 6 months ago)....I woke up in the middle of the night (well half awake and half asleep) and I clearly saw the figure of a woman in the room...I started shouting THERE IS SOMEONE IN THE ROOM!!!!....PAULA GET OUT!!!!...my poor partner nearly jumped the height of himself...I rolled over and went back to sleep.

The strange thing is.....about 2 months later was stripping wallpaper, wood on doors etc and found a little sign with the words "PAULAS ROOM KEEP OUT!!" made with one of those old label makers at the bottom of the door...it had been painted over a fair few times and definitely had not seen it beforehand.

I no longer sleep in that room...just in case....I also dont tell any guests sleeping over the story.....
