It's guaranteed to make record numbers. It's pure hype and show from here on in.

His tweet on the fight announcement has been liked 200,000 times in 3 hours.

For perspective, Kobe Bryant's retirement tweet didn't even do that in total (and it was the most liked sports tweet of the year).

The chances this will "bomb" are precisely ZERO.

Dana just said that it's been written into the contract that Conor can't kick/elbow etc and if he did there'd be lawsuits and huge financial repercussions.

Be nice if they managed to move a Katie Taylor world title fight onto the undercard, give it some respectability ;)

The last two times something similar happened (as far as I can remember) were Coutoure v Toney and Ali v that pro wrestler. Both fights were absolutely pathetic. Can anyone explain why this will be different? Other than this one will make more money.

Dana: Conor told me today that the McGregor Clan has been taking over villages for hundreds of years and Floyds village is next.

Spiting ****e because the US market will eat it up.

To be fair Conor is going to lose this fight (by a landslide) but he wont be a loser by any means, he will make about 100m....... not a bad day at the office. Hopefully after this farce he comes back and fights Ferguson in Nov/Dec.

What do you expect from someone who said he'd like to march into the falvalas on a horse and kill anyone not capable of work.

I know I'm in the opposite opinion of the majority here. But I would like to see this fight.
I like to think that Conor would hire a lot of great fighters from the ufc for his camp. He would get tips and spar with guys like Cruz, Anderson Silva, Cody, even Nate Diaz and Aldo would show up. The best coaches would be there as well. Everyone would put their differences aside and make this team training so that an MMA guy can beat Floyd.

Floyd would underestimate Conor and be caught right in the first round, but he would not be done yet. He would be punch drunk and I think a punch drunk Floyd may be not as hard for Conor so it'll be a close fight overall but Conor will be knocked down on the very last round and when the referee is making the counting Conor would look at the crowd, and there will be his peers, his colleagues, people who once were his opponnents, now are all friends. Cruz and Cody side by side, Aldo holding an irish flag, TJ and Faber holding hands, Nate with a white shirt that means peace, DC on top of Jon Jones shoulders so he can get a better view, Dee is also there, and by her side the faithful friend Artem holding the baby Mcgregor junior in his arms. Everyone cheering for Conor and telling him to stand up!

And so Conor do stand-up, and with only 5 seconds left in the fight, Conor kicks Floyd in the in the face, right on the chin. Floyd drops on the floor out cold. It's over. Conor would not get a cent because his contract forbids that he used some different technic than boxing. And the judges decide to declare Floyd the winner.

But we know who won that night. We'll always know.

The Mixed Martial Arts won. Friendship won. Love won.

That probably won't happen but I'll take my chances.

    pls happen

He's hardly a workaholic himself, wasn't he on the dole for a good while before he joined the UFC ?

Seen as this is the mma forum and Conor is now a 'boxer' any chance talk of this circus can be moved to the boxing forum :P

He should be stripped of the belt by September if hes not scheduled to fight in the UFC, the 155 div is actually worse than the fw division hold up at the time, get Ferguson an interim asap.

I agree. I am a massive Conor fan, I love watching the guy fight and the build up to his fights are amazing....... In saying that, he isn't defending his belts! I am sick of excuses, either **** or get off the pot!

155 Division might as well not exist. None of the top guys fighting or scheduled to fight. Best division talent wise but ruined because McGregor is in it.

Featherweight division looking much better since Conor left, Holloway champ! Ferguson/Khabib/Barboza to name but a few LW contenders who I want to see fight being held up by this stupid boxing farce.

Khabib can take some of the blame to be fair, but hes out so Ferguson Diaz Barboza ect need to be offered money to fight its going stale very quick.

Maybe so but Khabib has never held a belt and it's title fights and contender fights that keep a division moving. Can't have either of those of McGregor is champ. He picks his own sports and opponents based on money, no interest in legitimate sporting accomplishments.

Presume Conor is going to live in Vegas soon now to prepare for the conditions again.

He was training full time. You can't just decide one day to quit you job and join the UFC.

Considering the money he's made, and is about to make, it was a sound decision.

Will be strange seen him get knocked out as has never happened before and never came close.

Chin probably won't be the same again after it too.

It was near till he scrambled for Nate so as to avoid being knocked out cold.

The 1-2 Nate landed was very similar (borderline identical) to what Max landed on Aldo. It's testament to Conor's chin that he didn't fall.

He was just absolutely knackered and shot a panic takedown.

3 things concern me greatly about this fight from Conor's perspective:

    1. His lack of an effective jab.
    2. His right hand.
    3. His body.

Floyd is 100% going to land more body shots than everyone else combined has landed on Conor in his entire career. He can do all the "McGregor Fast" cardio he wants but it's a different kettle of fish maintaining your gas tank when someone is landing 5 or 6 hooks to the body every round.

His right hand, in MMA, is primarily used as a distance measuring device or for framing. It reminds me of Ryan Giggs right leg - he had one but it was mainly for standing on.

The lack of a jab could translate into a short night because if he's relying solely on left-hand counters he'll need a miracle. If he can somehow incorporate a jab to set up some combinations, then he might be able to land some good shots.

It's cool to be able to talk about an actual fight again.

    For some perspective:

Conor's "THE FIGHT IS ON" tweet has been Retweeted (so far) 174,000 times in 6 hours.

Donald Trump's tweet when he won the US Election last November reached a combined total of 232,000 retweets. Cristiano Ronaldos most retweeted tweet of all-time was 94,000 when winning the Balon D'or. Kobe Bryant's retirement tweet did 124,000 total.

I know twitter is only one metric but the likes of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram are good barometers of overall interest and that will filter down into PPV buys.

Dana announced that the UFC are doing a Conor Embedded the week of the fight as well and it's likely Floyd will be doing a tv documentary type gig through Showtime/HBO.

The fight is going to be massive and is basically a bulletproof guaranteed success. Every major Hollywood star, every major sports star, every major musician in North America are going to be at this.

It'll be like the Oscars except with a lad from Crumlin center-stage ready to "burst yer man" (still my favourite quote from UFC 202 Fight Week).

My one hope above hope is if it's going badly that John and/or Paschal aren't shy with that towel.

"From nothing to something to everything".
