Do you remember what you what you were doing that day? perhaps you weren't even alive. I'm not trying to solve any murders or bizarre hit and run incidents but someone recently gave me a Garmin GPS 12 which had been in a drawer for quite some time.

I fired 'er up anyway after a bit of tinkering and it got a fix soon enough, only problem is that it's convinced today is 28/10/1997. The reason for the incorrect date seems to be quirk in the protocol of GPS itself. A sort of millenium bug of some sort though if the device had been in regular use and the small internal coin cell hadn't run out it wouldn't have ever cropped up

As opposed to the year, month, and day format of the Gregorian calendar, the GPS date is expressed as a week number and a seconds-into-week number. The week number is transmitted as a ten-bit field in the C/A and P(Y) navigation messages, and so it becomes zero again every 1,024 weeks (19.6 years). GPS week zero started at 00:00:00 UTC (00:00:19 TAI) on January 6, 1980, and the week number became zero again for the first time at 23:59:47 UTC on August 21, 1999 (00:00:19 TAI on August 22, 1999). To determine the current Gregorian date, a GPS receiver must be provided with the approximate date (to within 3,584 days) to correctly translate the GPS date signal. To address this concern the modernized GPS navigation message uses a 13-bit field that only repeats every 8,192 weeks (157 years), thus lasting until the year 2137 (157 years after GPS week zero).

I came on here because I couldn't sleep. Feel like I've slept 2 weeks after reading that.

I was probably in college, or working on the building site beside the college, or drinking brandy.

I don't remember the particular day but I remember the year, I had just returned from another country where I had been living for a couple of months in the summer, my father had been diagnosed with cancer when I got back, I think Princess Diana had died the same month and yeah, the rest is a blur. Oh, and hale bopp was in the sky that year.

I was 11 years old and in fifth class at the time. I would normally have been in school on a Tuesday, but I think that was the week of the midterm break so I've no idea what I would have been doing

I was 16 years old, probably on mid term break from secondary school. I was in 5th year then.

I would've been in first year of secondary school. Cannot believe that's 20 years ago now. Insane! No idea what I'd have been up to that particular day.

God I feel so old now! And 20 years later, I STILL don't know what I want to be when I grow up!

Trying to voice search a song in retort, but between the late hour and my Tennent's lisp all I can bring up are The Smurfs or Van Morrison :(

Most likely in school (first year secondary). Probably buzzing because it was around that time that I really fancied someone for the first time. :o

I was *Michael Caine voice* only 15 years old.

That would've been a... Tuesday. I was on my midterm break. I was in transition year and had spent the previous week doing work experience. Jacques Villeneuve won the F1 World Championship the previous Sunday (after Schumacher attempted to ram him off the track). Manchester United had a big win that weekend too, beating one of the smaller teams by at least five or six goals.

I was 17 years old, in 5th year, probably sitting in double Irish or double Maths (I know I had one or the other on Tuesday in fifth year). At lunchtime, I bet we were talking about how to get to Bundoran on the Halloween weekend to sneak into Planet Earth...

I was 9 then and in third class and most likely on midterm break. Probably sat at home watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
