    Hi all

Car failed on wiper linkage being worn (passed in its current state last time around!!) So will be replacing linkage arms.

Re-test is visual only - can I just rock up to the centre and ask for visual inspection? Or do I have to book?

    Thanks

No appointment, just try to go if it's quiet and it'll be done quicker. Busy times you may have a small wait. Or could get lucky and have someone pop out quick to get rid of ya :D

Resurrecting an old thread but...is there a time limit like 30 days or whatever for when you should return by for the visual inspection?

There is a time limit, it's printed on the sheet that came with the test result, and if you go beyond that date, it's no longer a free visual inspection, it's a complete retest at the full fee. Some of the test stations that operate extended hours won't do a visual during the shift changeover times, or in the last half hour before closing, so if you're planning to use the same station for the check, have a look at the notice board to see if there are any time periods where they won't do visual checks, as it varies from station to station.

Other than that, yes, you can just turn up and ask them to do the check

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Yes, it was only after posting I realised that the visual inspection is in fact a re-test so the usual 30-day time limit for a re-test would apply. Thanks for the information.

Does it have to be the same test centre you go to for a visual inspection?

    No

For a visual retest (no booking needed), can you just go to the advice desk or do you need to go to the main inspection area and check the car in with reception?

Depends on what centre you go to. Surely you can just ask when you get there?

    Suppose I can.

Was at Deansgarange earlier this week for retest (headline alignment). Took 90 seconds from handing over keys but restart was waylayed as he got out of the car by someone asking for a visual. Was efficient enough.

I had a visual one year at Fonthill, and just went directly to the service desk.

Yep, at Fonthill, go to Advice Desk and wait for one of the testers to come out. As mentioned above, they won't do visual tests at shift change, something like 12.45-1.45 and 5.45-6.45
