I see splitting the chat out from the main thread is working wonders

Now it's just a heap of links, and this will turn into another heap of links back to the other thread...

How does one know if they are polarised out of curiosity?

If you hold them up to a laptop/some phone screens and turn the glasses 45 degrees the screen should get darker/go black.

Veithida also include a little polarization test card with their glasses, so you know they're polarized for sure.

The only expensive thing about the above is probably finding replacement batteries. If you where to get them in Ireland.

You can find packs on aliexpress (10 Pack €2.12).

Have an order made two weeks ago via parcel motel that is already in the Dublin Depot, so probably be in my local motel later this evening. It's now my go to method for anything over a tenner tbh.

Anybody got an idea as to how many days customs inspect or hold on to gear for?

If customs actually have it then it can be very quick. Day or so. If you email them the tracking number and invoice to dmc@revenue.ie then you'll usually get it processed immediately.

Coincidentally, both Aukey stores on Aliexpress are having a sale on some of their items, for example
4 port wall charger (EU plug) - https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Aukey-40w-8A-USB-Travel-Wall-Charger-Adapter-with-Foldable-Plug-with-4-Ports-Android-and/1830134_32395093971.html
    5 cables - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Aukey-5-Pack-Micro-USB-Cable-Fast-Charging-Adapter-5V2A-Data-Charger-Mobile-Phone-Cable-for/32637756862.html
Teclast are having an 18th Anniversary 'event' at the moment, a limited number of sale items expected to feature each day. For example today had P80H tablets @ $39.99 each to the first 30 customers.

Telecast tablets look interesting, what are they like to use, responsive etc,

I wouldnt bother with anything that has 1gb RAM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,211 ✭✭✭✭Suckit

Teclast are a well-ish known brand and consistently get decent reviews.
Regarding the 1GB ram, it depends on what you plan to use it for and your budget.
I have bought my mother a 1GB tablet and it is perfect for her. She reads books, watches videos, browses the internet and plays bridge and a few other games on it. Her Grandchildren also have a lot of games installed on it and play them.

If you are planning on watching streaming video, playing light/kids games, reading and browsing the internet, then 1GB is fine.
If however, you plan on playing heavy games and maybe plan on performing a lot of higher end tasks with it, then it will often struggle, and may not play many of the high-end games.

I have also noticed that the Teclast sale items will only ship to Ireland from China (free) or Spain ($16).
I think a few items will ship to UK from Germany and Italy but i am not 100%, as when you change address to UK, many items become unavailable when using Irish account.
Best to create a new UK account and try it.
And use the code in the other thread.

Heres another WIFI IP Webcam for $21 delivered.

This came today and I'm delighted with it!

It came with a dodgy looking 2 pin usb plug and a 2 pin to 3 pin converter so I just binned the usb plug and used my own.

The app called Netcam is available to download via the Play store and App Store and I've found it perfectly stable and nice to use so far.

It runs in the background in Android but doesn't seem to in IOS, I must check if theres a setting later.

The motion detection is great, and sets off an alarm on your Android or IOS device.

With the senitivity turned up to 10 it detects cars passing through our estate. Its not sensitive enough to detect one person walking through our drive way though, as most of our driveway is obstructed from view,it did manage to detect 2 people coming in at the same time however.

You can also view it in your browser, by typing in the ip address and port number 81 e.g. 192.168.1.1:81

I haven't used it with an SD card yet but to my surprise it seems you can play back recordings via the app without having to take out the memory card.

When you use the microphone on your Android device there's a fair bit of crackly background noise through the cameras speaker. I don't think I'll ever use this function though.

Theres also a microphone alarm so you can use it as a baby monitor but I haven't checked this out yet. Theres quite a lot of settings and functions in the app some I don't even know what they do.

Took a little figuring it out to get it working on the network, first you need to stick a pin into the reset button while powering it on, and a voice says “reset successful” through the speaker. :D

I thought you had to directly connect the phone via Wi-Fi to set it up but it wouldn't appear in my wifi list.

Instead you use the app Netcam, scan a qr code, put in your routers Wi-Fi password and the app will connect the camera to your Wi-Fi network followed by the cute Asian lady's voice saying “connected” :D

Can't wait to use this to start notifying me when a delivery man or woman comes to the house.

found this pdf guide for the App Netcam 360 which may be of use to someone else. its a little of date but gives a good idea of how to use it.

    Regarding the phone chargers:

I really like the Ikea chargers. They are E9 and have 3 ports. Total current output: 3400mA, Port current output: 2400mA

People who have done teardowns of them rate them very highly in terms of how well made they are.

They are not the cheapest, and wouldn't have the same kind of max output as say the Aukey that was listed but I think they are a good option

Great option for anything that doesnt have QuickCharge.

Does this have PTZ? It says so in the description, but I really doubt it for €21.

With any of those cameras, make sure UPnP is disabled on your router..... I was shocked to see how many ports a Hikvision camera had opened on mine.

Yeah, keep an eye on them alright....
Hikvision, a Chinese manufacturer of video surveillance equipment, recently patched a backdoor in a slew of its cameras that could have made it possible for a remote attacker to gain full admin access to affected devices.

The backdoor stems from two bugs: an improper authentication bug and a password in configuration file vulnerability. Both bugs could have allowed an attacker to escalate privileges and access sensitive information.

I think I may have a winner for longest delivery time:

I ordered those back on the 25th of January and had written them off as never coming. They just arrived this morning.
