Do you tip painters/decorators?

I usually do all the painting myself, but I've hired a painter because I'm selling my house and want a professional finish. Because of this I don't know if I'm meant to tip or not? He's doing a good job but I am paying a lot to hire him.

What do you normally do? to tip or not to tip.....

I am a painter, and in my opinion there's no need to tip.. But it is nice to get a tip.... Most people don't tip, but those who appreciate the work/effort put in will tip maybe 20 quid or so. Best I received was 100 euro tip.

The only tip I give them is not to get paint on the carpet or they'll be buying me a new one.
Since when did Ireland become a tipping country?
Labour is already factored in to the fee (which usually isn't cheap to begin with).

I am not a painter but a carpenter. I never take a tip off people most are good to me (tea sambo etc) so that's costing them on top of the job. When I give a price my labour is in the price so don't expect more. At Christmas some of my regular customers that I help out would tip something small as a token.

I gave the lads who painted our house a crate of beer on their last day as they headed home.

I think if you provide refreshments for them (tea/coffee and a few biscuits) for when they are there and then round up on the total amount, I think that would be enough. They already charge for the labour so no need to give them a tip in my opinion.
