I think it's unfair of parents to name their kids with names for their own reasons. Fáinse.?... a f**king stupid name that the poor child will spend about a year of their life spelling and respelling for people.

They are native Irish speakers from a part of Galway where Irish is still spoken as the first language. Absolutely nothing wrong with a family giving their child a name that has meaning to them.

I think the priest had a nerve suggesting an alternative name when they had already decided on one

what about the child having to spell the name out for the rest of her life , sounds like a makey-up name of self-centered parents to me , spare us with the native name pure connemara rubbish.

Nothing wrong with an unusual name, can be a good thing having to spell it out as it can distinguish you from the crowd.

I enjoy the interview in spite of Marion. Always find Padraig O'Ceidigh to be an interesting and articulate listen.

My first name is spelt slightly different from the norm, and I have to correct every person who writes it down or takes my name over the phone. Believe me, I do not thank my parents for making me unique.

(My boards name is not my proper name in case anybody is wondering if there is a different spelling of the name Peter).

The worst on of those is the name Eva , "hi Eva ,is that spelled Eabha, Aoibhea, eava, or what other unique spelling your pretentious parents dreamt up?"

Wish I'd waited to win the Queen tickets this week... can't imagine they'll let me win twice.

That ship sailed about 7 years ago. The show is as dull as dishwater.

The bloody cheek of them. I'm sure if they knew how upset you would be they would mend their ways.

It is between her and Darcy as to who is the worst professional radio broadcaster I've ever heard.

    Both remarkably amateurish.

Could have been worse, imagine if they'd named her after the spot where she was conceived ... "Muckanaghederdauhaulia come in to your tea now"
Who would do that to a child?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I must say my eyebrows were raised when Padraig O'Ceidigh commended Marion for her "professionalism and preparation" on the show. I think even the most ardent Finucane fan could see this remark as only gratuitous plamás and not a genuine reflection of the situation. I listened back to her interviewing Sean Fitzpatrick the other day ... (don't ask)... and the standard of interviewing was just so much higher. She was well prepared, passionate and focused. The standard has decrease a lot in ten years.

And an interview with a retired rugby player. WHY in God's name is this on Marion Finucane's show??? A whole afternoon of sport and he is interviewed by somebody who feigns an interest in rugby, but really doesn't have a clue. Could one of the sports department not have interviewed him this afternoon..

I'm sure when Johnny Holland said "I showed up for training, but I was not the focus, the team were working on a new centre", Marion was thinking "They musn't have been able to get funding from the IRFU".

Marcus, a friend of mine, suspects he was conceived in a Marcos.

personally i never thought much of O'Ceidigh . Fair enough he built Aer arran up a bit . However, the signs of trouble, ie the new motorway network were easily forseable . yet he waited till the storm hit before he acted. the when he got out of that, he did like many others, Mick Wallace etc and went to work for the government .
The interview this morning was pathetic . She never properly challenged him, that he has overseen , on the water commitee , a surrender to the " we wont pay brigade " . If you live in rural ireland, you have to pay for your water or provide your own, but your taxes go to pay for free water for people in dublin , cork and galway etc . No fear of Marian raising that touchy point, thats for sure

It's depressing when you note the drop in standards ... proves yet again you should quit while your on top (or before they find you out!)

I couldn't believe it when I heard he'd got a seat in the Seanad. That guy has had more comebacks than Lazarus. I had to have a look there at his website. It's glossy and harks back to the glory days of Aer Arann. Much like the man himself. But for a good 15 years now, I've been listening to his shtick of 'things were really bad, Marian - but I've turned a corner now!' Every three or four years. When I learn that the previous phase was a dreadful period that he's finally put behind him.
As for the story about the daughter's name, I couldn't believe the way the priest's arrogance was being spun as a 'yeah, it was gas, really...' anecdote. I hope he doesn't make his business decisions on the same basis.

How many comebacks did Lazarus have?
