I have one question - better or worse than Pacific Rim?

Not as good as Pacific Rim no.

    Still liked it though.

I enjoyed the movie's post Vietnam setting, it gave the movie a new slant, not to mention a great soundtrack. I was surprised with some of the more gory bits in what's essentially a family movie, but no worse that that other family movie, Jaws.

If anything, they probably had too many ideas crammed into the two hour running time, which meant it felt a bit undercooked here and there. But overall, I'd give it a decent 7/10.

    went to see it today.

thought it was a great little cracker. i was worried it'd be like godzilla i.e not enough of the big guy and stuck with a charisma vacuum.

but the humans werent as annoying as i feared and indeed i really liked hiddleston and larsen in their roles.

kong himself was in it far more than i expected and not in a "hey look its the lad ya paid to see oh no this door is closing just as he's throwing a punch " kind of way. the 2 hours flew for me and IMO the series is well set up for the godzilla smack down down the road.

    7/10 from me.

good aul fashioned monster feature that'll keep the popcorn chomping.

I really enjoyed it. As a monster movie it achieved exactly what it set out to do. It looked great on a big screen and the location shooting gave it a sense of reality and atmosphere.

I wouldn’t give a thought if the characters were underdeveloped or made stupid decisions. I’m perfectly happy to let these faults go in this type of film.

These films are all about spectacle for me. Kong certainly delivered on that.

I was in two minds about going to see it and I have to say I'm glad I did and I loved it.

A great popcorn movie and one to see in the cinema I would say.

I went to see this the other night. I read a couple of reviews that were less than flattering beforehand but I genuinely enjoyed it for what it was.

I did think that Tom H. was miscast and his character didn't really add much to proceedings but that aside it was, IMHO, a solid B movie monster flick...cracking soundtrack too :)

Went last nite agree with all of the above enjoyed it for what it was. Good monster entertainment. Far better that the reviews I read.

I only got around to seeing this today. It was okay.... enjoyable enough without leaving a lasting impression. Plenty of corn and cheese on display too of course, but at least it wasn't as dour as some of the other big effects driven movies I've seen in the last couple of years.

Watched this last night. Hated it. Thought it was dreadful.

A more violent "Jurassic World" (Which I enjoyed). As far as I'm concerned, this movie doesn't exist & Peter Jackson's version (including the theme park ride) is the most current version.

I thought it was much better than Jackson's Kong.

Thought this delivered everything it promised and was a good deal better than i expected.

Have to question anyone wondering whether it was going for "serious or funny".

It's a King Kong vietnam war movie with John Goodman, Sam Jackson and John C. O'Reilly.

If you can't accept it on those terms then you wouldn't have enjoyed it alright.

    That was pretty awful.

Saw it a couple of weeks ago and didn't enjoy it at all.

The plot of King Kong is well described and Skull Island hit none of those beats.

It would have been better marketed as Skull Island: Captain Ahab tbh.

    Hiddleston was miscast, utterly unconvincing.
And Goodman just phoned it in.

Very disappointing, not sure how either this or Godzilla are worth pursuing in the expected shared movies to come.

Have to say, I'm amazed at the good press this is getting from some areas. It really isn't deserving of it at all.
