Is this DNS configuration possible?

I am developing a web application that allows users to create a mini-website which will be available at www.mydomain.com/unique-site-name.

I'd like to allow the users purchase their own domain name and point it at the above URL. Is this possible? If so, how would I achieve it?

The web application is hosted on Azure as a cloud service.

Yes it's possible.

That's about as specific as it's possible to get without guessing what O/S, language etc etc etc.

Hi Graham,

I'm comfortable with the coding side so no need to explain that. It's really about how I would go about configuring a domain name to point to a URL like that, instead of an IP like I usually would.

I wouldn't be a DNS guru and have only done the straightforward website & email set up etc.

You wouldn't necessarily need to point a domain to a URL depending on what your app is written in. That would make your customers domains easier to manage 'register your domain, create an A record pointing to this IP addresss'.

It's an ASP.net MVC 5 project written in C# and hosted on Azure as a Cloud Service application. I'm open to changing the Azure side of things though.

How would I differentiate the different websites from the IP address though?
