Im on 63 too, hoping we get the April calls!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 92 ✭✭Smilo89

Some of ours are only valid until June or July, which would mean we'll need to be in the next call or maybe the one after that. The potential start date in July makes it look like my PCA could expire 3 days before I'd be due to start. Fingers crossed I get the call for June!!

When did you do yours AfterEight?  I had to retest in November.  Also whats your AC score?

Mine was at the start of September. I almost wish I'd failed the first time so it would be valid for a bit longer now! I think I might be in the next 2 calls, which means it will either be no problem, or could have expired by a few days. How gutting would that be?!? And I scored 63.

I'm the same. Expiry is July. Aaaaahhhh

    PCA dates?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭Chucky1011

Just that we're still in the process and should get PCA soon, ifs there's any changes in situation to inform them. Not much really!

Nice to get a wee bit of positive news.  At least things are progressing (albeit a bit slower than most of us would like)!

Sitting in waiting room with 61 ac score with PCA due to expire start of July.

Phoned recruitment and they assured me I wouldn't be disadvantaged due to this and I would get word of retesting before my predicted intake.

Those of us who got the emails, the fact we got them makes me think PCAs aren't going to be for a good while yet, as if they were we wouldn't of been sent that email. Has anyone in the 55-60 band called recruitment about the status of their vetting out of interest?

    Hiya

Did they mention when the next intakes would be at all?

2 months is far too soon to be calling for vetting updates IMO.

I'm sitting at 67.5. PCA due to expire mid July. Vetting still not cleared despite it being in since late june. They naturally won't tell me what the reasons are for the delay. They have called those who scored less than me so it's a definite concern of mine at this stage that the PCA is going to run out before vetting is cleared. Tried to ask if they halted or paused vetting during the investigation but got no answer. I've put my life on hold enough for this process and if my PCA runs out I will withdraw from the process before I redo it and then look to investigate though different channels what the issue was with vetting and put a formal complaint in. No idea why vetting is taking so long, no tattoos, no convictions, credit is good and I've moved house once in 20 years.

I'm in the batch just before you guys, I received what I assume is a similar email at the beginning of January, online learning followed start of February and PCA date received start of March. So hopefully you shouldn't be waiting to much longer for movement.

It would be good if we all had a wee update from recruitment, like more info on next intakes or basically just to say we are all still in the process!

There was to be an independent vetting appeal system setup last year, not sure if it was ever put into place but something to consider.

Thanks for that.  Will definitely look into it if/when my PCA expires. So disheartening after the hundreds I spent on personal trainers and putting a lot of things on hold. I'll be happy to be able to commit to holidays and family events again.

I understand your frustrations PCWannabe, but TBH all that will get you is a load more frustration and non-answers and it will definitely not get you into the police. You will not get any answers from vetting and if you withdraw from the process, you are out and there are no comebacks. A complaint won't do *you* any good - it might change something further down the line for other candidates, but you personally are out. The recruitment process may not be "optimal", but it is the process and it is the only way in and you have to play the game. If you have to do the PCA again, just do it - look at it as a learning experience, it increases your knowledge as you get another go at it and this will help when you get into GV (and with your AC score, you will get in!) and have to do the PCA again before you can pass out as a constable. Try and beat your previous time!

If you are really concerned, I would contact vetting directly and not recruitment (the vetting e-mail address was in the correspondence you received). But explain what the impact to you is and phrase your e-mail as an offer to help - if you can offer any more information that will allow them to move your application through faster or words to that effect. It might not help, but it might get the person that answers the e-mail to have another look at your application and where it is and a bit of focus on it might move it along!

One of the qualities they look for in a constable is resilience and I think that the recruitment process is to try and teach that to you!

These are just my thoughts in an effort to help you - feel free to tell me to do one if this is not helping!

If we do end up needing to re-test....is that not us being disadvantaged?
I'll of course re-test, but my nerves get the best of me everytime I've done it. Failed both times in my first campaign. And just scrapped a pass for this one...I'm relatively fit as I play a lot of sport. But I just shake from start to finish and I think I read somewhere that we only get one chance. Makes the aul nerves worse. Be devastated to fall at this stage. So close.

Here is some really crap advice: Don't be nervous! :)

No, seriously, don't be - you have passed before and everybody (myself included) that has passed before always improves their time the next time. Knowledge is power! You know what it is like and what works for you, so just go in next time and smash it.

Believe in yourself - read the ATTITUDE tip in my tips post (#2,852) :)
