Can anybody point me in the right direction for training in upholstering or furniture restoration? Preferably a longer course of apprenticeship as opposed to a short course.

I think you'd have to ring around a few furniture makers/restorers. It'd be a great trade I think.

    Where are you based?

I'm based in Dublin, I think I'll try and speak to somebody in the trade to see if it does have a recognised qualification.

If you drive, there's a furniture retail park in Navan. Most of them make their own furniture in factories on site. We bought in one called Ashleaf recently. Depends where you are in Dublin but it's only around 30-40mins from M50.
