Im assuming the 288bhp was achievable with all the emissions sh1te in situe. Surely well over 300 is achievable with a few choice mods/removals ;)

Prob best wait a few years till the warranty is completely finito for stage 2 though as they say :P

Yep just a bog standard map nothing else touched.

is that an entrance to an estate? Or your garden?

A real Boss would have answered 'Yes' to both those questions! :)

They are unbelievable value for money at the minute. 2.7d?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,280 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Yep, that's the one! I paid a little bit over the odds, but there are some pretty tatty ones out there. This one only has 70k kms on the clock and is in good condition inside and out.

I love the grille! Super agressive looking and goes with the colour.

Would love one at some stage, but trying to get insurance on one right now would be a nightmare (only 23 )

My jag was cheaper to insure than my Avensis.

I'm 24... My insurance company pretty much said they won't cover me on anything bigger than 2.5. Up to that is no problem but after that they won't quote.

Haven't really pushed them on that to be fair. 2.5 is more or less the most I'll pay in motor tax on a daily driver anyway.

I know my saab (150bph 1.9) is cheaper than my old 1.2 clio, but even then its still costing me a decent bit. I know I had insane quotes of €2500 for a 2.2 accord and a 2.2 C220.

Anyway i plan to keep my current yolk till i leave for NZ in a couple of years, so by then insurance isn't going to matter  I'd love a 2.8T saab 93 though. Well I can dream, can't I :')

Thos XFs are pretty low on power... most of the ones here anyway?

Edit: I see the 2.2d is pretty low on power.

My S3 is cheaper to insure than my 98 diesel A4 avant.

    Did you sell the GS?

    I traded in - I wish I wasn't so fickle, they're a fine car!

Measuring a cars risk level by engine size is unbelievably old fashioned. Back in the 70s, maybe BHP to displacement was a linear enough graph. Not today, you can have a 1.6 fiesta with over 200bhp in a small car, and then a 2.5l - say a Jag x-type with 190bhp in a big heavy slow car. Therefore, having a blanket "we don't insure anything over 2.5L" or the likes is daft.

    Year makes a big difference. I'm 500 less on a 175bhp 2.2 than a 2.0 110bhp bora.

I hear that. Those cars are fantastic to drive too. A true "Driver's Car™". Unreal handling and so connected to the road in a way that vanishingly few cars of today can match. Just you, the Pug and the road. If you are lucky enough to get a go in one, take it with both arms. I love seeing CD's Pug every time he posts. :D

Earlier today, with the sunny day that was in it, I did my spring cleaning of the winter dust and such(such included removal of interior panels to check for the dreaded rust and application of Bilt Hamber goo© along seams. No rust found thankfully). To be fair needs a little more OCD with toothbrushes and patience. :o Though I'm quite proud that the rocker cover has so few "nibbles". The finish on these is so delicate that if a housefly landed on it he would come away with six red feet.

    412816.jpg

Plus I have engine and gearbox oil magnetic plugs incoming as a treat, so was hitting the latter with some release oil in preparation. Spoon Sports bits too. None of yer muck. :p Oddly the engine is a Spoon worked example*, but didn't come with the magnetic plugs.

*no extra power contrary to the Fast and Furious notion, just more blueprinted than stock. Christ knows how, as the stock engine is already blueprinted to the point of obsession. Must have rubbed surfaces with mink gloves for the extra polish.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

After giving the Civic a but of a clean last week, I think I've developed a bit of a taste for it. Went around the whole car with g3 by hand yesterday which was tedious enough then gave all the rubber stuff a spruce. Not a bad looking car for ten years of age. Shame one damp morning will ruin the whole thing and that the morning in question is probably tomorrow. That's probably why I don't do it more often.

Then it would have been rude not to give the Golf a once over, the weather was great for it.

Last wash on the old paint as I'll hardly bother again over the next fortnight.

Great the the new shocks fixed your axle tramp BTW. :)

I saw somewhere in a thread that it was sorted but can't find it to reply now :o

So as I mentioned in the chat thread I have bought a Trabant. Actually myself and my dad went 50:50 on it.

I must start a project thread about it too :)

I don't know much about these cars yet at all so if anyone has any brilliant information (like what all the switches do and mean :p) I would be delighted to hear!

    Hahaha

It's brilliant! Well it had a lot of brilliant intentions. It's actually in reasonably good condition even though it is rough looking. It appears to have minimal rust and a good wash I feel would benefit it.

The biggest problems are the damp interior and the lack of weather proofing. If also needs a good carb tune which I may look into this weekend :) It is starting and driving though. Stops as it should and most of the electrics work!
