It sucks that the US is getting an early release, because it means that I need to avoid absolutely everything to make sure I avoid any sort of spoilers.

I'll be holding off anyway. Euro gamer review is very negative.

Me buying it cheap will make up for the full price/from Ashes last time!

Played through the trial at the weekend, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. So much so that I immediately pre-ordered it.

I enjoyed the first three games, but ultimately I was left unsatisfied with them. Really wasn't going to bother with the new game, until of course I tried it out and got sucked in.

I wouldn't base my decision to buy on Eurogamer, they are completely inconsistent with their reviews. The last few I've read make it seem they give someone the game to review, who actively hates or has no interest in the genre (Horizon Zero Dawn didn't get any sort of rating either and anybody who has played that knows how good it is).

Forget Eurogamer when it comes to reviews.

I quite enjoyed the small bit of the 10hour trial I tried, felt like mass effect, wasn't too gone on the characters but then I didn't care for the characters in me1 until I'd hours put in, story seems promising, new galaxy, knowing nothing, new aliens(hope their not all evil)

I'll buy it if I can get around the release somehow, can one use a VPN to trick origins?

    Couldn't disagree more.

Nonetheless, the criticism is fairly universal in Andromeda's case.

For what it's worth, I'm finding it tricky to get really sucked in for this game. I don't find myself saying "Hmmm, wonder if I could get an hour in now?" It's not a bad game, at all, but there's a couple of weird things. In particular the way the Asari look in this is annoying me. They all seem "rounder" or something. I know that sounds stupid but the Asari were so elegant in the first 3 games, and they seem weird in this one.

I'm kinda glad I didn't pre-order it on digital. I have €25 sitting on a GameStop card, I'll probably rock in over the weekend and buy a physical copy with the voucher. I dunno if it's worth €70+ for me.

I'll still get this next week, 7.5/10 is as close to the original Mass Effect review score as can be, and that's good enough for me. Have played a bit of both the MP and SP trial and have so far encountered no problems.

Kinda sad, the trilogy got me into sci-fi and I was looking forward to a big new space adventure but doesn't look great.

Case in point is their review of Horizon Zero Dawn vs their review of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Seriously, go open them side by side and read through them - the criticisms offered against Horizon ZD (which didn't even get a recommended) are fawned over in the Zelda review (which got an Essential). Impossible to take a site seriously when it comes to game reviews when they can't even decide themselves on how criteria should be weighted.

Not excusing Mass Effect's feedback so far but using Eurogamer as a go to for any sort of intelligent review is just pointless these days.

Pay a quick visit to South Korea from the comfort of your own home and you will be scanning redundant flora and fauna in the vast empty space of the Andromeda system in no time.

Yeh, horizon was mentioned already, but it doesn't stop ten years of me enjoying and agreeing with their reviews generally.

Gamespot are usually pretty good IMO.

I found the game absolutely infuriating. Parts of it are good - the graphics etc...but this is what a next gen 2017 console game should look like. The writing and characterization is truly awful. Really with a $40 million budget and 5 years to create, Andromeda is unforgiveable. I loved the original trilogy (even ME3) and was looking for something different. The lack of imagination was really staggering.

Ah, i was specifically referring to the 8/10 review scores that i read back when it came out, and more specifically the Xbox 360 review scores, but i take your point sir.

I amend my statement to this: 7.5/10 is close enough to good for me, and i will still get it.

Fair enough, i only took you up on that because someone mentioned the same thing earlier too.

I think it is now safe to say that much like Westwood, Maxis, Bullfrog, and others, BioWare can now join the ranks of developers who, either by the ruthlessly industrious nature of EA or complacency and arrogance from resting on past laurels, can be regarded as defunct. The team that made Mass Effect: Andromeda are not the original BioWare who made the first trilogy or great games like Dragon Age: Origins, KotOR, or NWN. We now have a shell masquerading as BioWare by simply retaining the name and the IPs.

Personally, much of this blame falls on EA. Someone in this thread made a good point about Titanfall 2 being a disappointment in terms of sales, and its quite possible that in order to boost revenue for their end of year financial targets, Mass Effect was released ahead of its time. This makes sense when most reviewers intimate that the game needed another year, or six months of development at the very least. When it was announced BioWare were being bought out by EA there was an uproar from BioWare fans. Everyone believed that they would eventually collapse under the pressures of a big corporate looking to please shareholders and compromise titles to compensate for the failures of others. Another case of 'We told you so'.

Ah well. It was nice while it lasted.

I don't think i have had a PC capable of playing it, so i'll always be talking console :D

But no, i get what ya mean, and it probably should be better, but i do love Mass Effect so i'm going to give this every opportunity- i would rate the ME3 Multiplayer as some of the best experiences of my 360 days and i hope to be able to repeat that with Andromeda.

I will say this though, i see it being called "the worst RPG Bioware has made"- i counter with Dragon Age 2, which for me was just rubbish. So i guess it's going to be very much an individual thing.

Dragon Age: Origins was excellent. DA2, was a repetitive mess as they tried to turn it into a fantasy version of Mass Effect. DA3 (for the most part) was very enjoyable. I was really into it, but I never finished it and I mean to in the coming weeks.

I never played the first, and i realise i left "2" out of the above so will edit that now, so i can't say anything about it, but DA2 and Inquisition just left me cold. I must give Origins a shout.

No more discussions on how to bypass regional restrictions folks.

CD Projekt Red blew all the other developers out of the water with Witcher 3. Mature, clever, with real depth of story, interesting side quests, etc. It's going to be a tough one to beat and rushing out crap like MEA isn't going to cut it in a post-Witcher 3 industry. High hopes for Red Dead 2 though.

How disappointing are these reviews? At a time when games cost 70 a shot I can't justify taking a punt on this vs say Horizon Zero Dawn which has been universally praised, and which will in all probability get some of my wages this month. I have seen enough of the Lets Plays, and read enough of the reviews to make my mind up about this. So infuriating as I was really looking forward to be engrossed.

Really don't understand all the backlash against this to be honest. I've never felt so out of step with consensus before. Having used up my 10 hour trial I'd still contend that anyone who enjoyed the original trilogy will enjoy this. I'm really looking forward to release so I can dive back in.

Then again I'd have no interest whatsoever in something like Zelda, so maybe I'm just on a different wavelength to some of you guys.

Don't get me wrong, I will probably pick this up sometime down the road, but I can't justify spending €60 on an under-cooked game. I will give it a few months of patches, perhaps some released content, and re-evaluate the situation then. I played Mass Effect 1 six times... Mass Effect 2 four times and Mass Effect 3 only once (my emotions couldn't handle additional playthroughs). I love the franchise, but EA and BioWare have royally fúcked up. They shouldn't receive a financial pass by compensation, imo.

Dude, i cant stand the witcher games - it's just personal taste, and i'm definitely in the minority with how well received W3 was.
