Well yeah, no issue regarding Kongs age. I mean more along the lines of... will Kong become public knowledge by the end of this? In Godzilla, the idea of huge monsters seems to be new territory... no mention of a "Kong" incident in it. Not that there has to be but it'll just be interesting to see how it ties together.

Going back to a previous posters Predator reference will the survivors of this get on a chopper with a vow to keep quiet to protect earth n ****.

That didn't happen in Predator though. Both Predator sequels made reference to the report Dutch made of the encounter. But yeah, maybe it'll end up a military secret. I'm not saying it won't work btw, I'm just interested in seeing how it all ties in, seeing as they're going for this shared universe approach. At least they made sure Kong will match Godzilla for size here.

The Japanese poster for this is absolutely fantastic.

May contain spoilers for anyone who hasn't watched the trailers...

Looking forward to this if just for the cast.

Solid trailer; bodes well for Legendary's own expanded universe, suggesting a potentially more carefree film to Godzilla's sullen fare. Could be the surprise blockbuster hit ('surprise' in the sense it's not really any pre-existing franchise, hyped YA adaptation or that sort of thing)

Brilliant trailer. Can't wait for this.

Turned that trailer off half way. It's showing waaaaay too much that should be reserved for the cinema.

    Looks mental. Can't wait!

    I'm looking forward to this.

Universal seem to want to reboot both their Monster & their Horror franchises at the same time or maybe see which is performing better & drop the non-performer.

But I'm a little confused, Is this a total reboot & 2005's Peter Jackson version doesn't exist in this universe or is this jumping the story 40 years forwards to the 70s with room to capture Kong & bring him to New York in a sequel?

Total reboot. They had to make Kong bigger as to make his matchup with Godzilla slightly fairer.

So we can assume that he goes to Japan instead of new york in the sequel so. Seems strange as they spent so much money on the rides in the parks to work in with the Jackson version.

    Peter Bradshawed -
Deep in the distant jungle … the undergrowth stirs, the lagoons froth, the branches shake and a huge monster rears terrifyingly up on its haunches, blotting out the sun. Run for your lives! It’s a 700 ft turkey, making squawking and gobbling noises and preparing to lay a gigantic egg.

This fantastically muddled and exasperatingly dull quasi-update of the King Kong story looks like a zestless mashup of Jurassic Park, Apocalypse Now and a few exotic visual borrowings from Miss Saigon. It gets nowhere near the elemental power of the original King Kong or indeed Peter Jackson’s game remake; it’s something Ed Wood Jr might have made with a trillion dollars to do what he liked with but minus the fun.

I only really take notice of reviews if every single one I read is bad and the film is obviously going to be a turkey. Thankfully that’s not the case with Kong: Skull Island. It’s being favourably reviewed in the main and sounds like it’s competently made and a bit of fun.

I sometimes read Peter Bradshaw’s reviews but I never let them inform my decision on a film. He has to go to extremes in his criticism. I don’t know why he is as well regarded as he is.

Heading to see this tonight! Looks like a lot of fun to me!

Hmmm its alright 6/6.5 out of 10 for me.
The action set pieces and design was a lot of fun but the story was pretty much non existent with some terrible lines of dialogue.
John C Reilly pretty much stole the show, I also have to say Tom Hiddleston was really really poor in it has acting was so stilted and wooden.
It kind of reminded me of Jurassic World (but I enjoyed that a lot more).

Oh and do remember to stay after the credits

Yeh, a mate of mine saw it too. Said is was very, very average.

I kinda get the unfortunate feeling that any part worth seeing is in the trailer.. would that be fair?

It's entertaining but not a good film. There was absolutely zero characterisation, beyond zero. Tom Hiddleston was nothing more than his smirky face, who is he, why would they pay so much for him on this trip? No idea, he does absolutely nothing but be the handsome guy next to the gorgeous woman. Brie Larson, she doesn't get to fare better as a result.

Samuel L Jackson doesn't want to leave the war so in taking on this mission wants to put everyone's lives at risk to save the one stranded soldier and kill Kong. No reason. This film would have no plot if he just went along with the plan to get on the boat and GET TO THE CHOPPER!! John C Reilly as you could tell from the trailers is the best thing in the film. Funny and charming but still not a lot going on.

What happens in end credits? saw the premiere but left as soon as it was over.

Hiddleston and brie (who I thought did really well with a crappy part) are being held in monarch and are then told then shown that other monsters exist...they are then shown mothra, Godzilla and a couple more...spin offs galore....almost as clunky as Batman Vs Superman Folders with the spin offs tbh

I lost my respect for him after his review of Spectre was nothing more than a summary of its plot. He gave it 5 stars. Why he's held in such high esteem is beyond me.

Better than I was expecting. Enjoyable film.

Just back from this in 3D. It's beyond awful. Hiddelston is woeful. Dialogue is tripe. Every reheated, hokey cliché in the book. Plot is gossamer.

The entire thing prompts one eye rolling sigh and splutter after another. I was looking forward to just disengaging my brain for the duration, but it's just too bad. Can't believe it hasn't been solidly panned all round.

    Kong looks good.

I rather enjoyed it myself as an average action/monster film. Lovely scenery, fantastic soundtrack and Mr. Jackson giving his patented hamming-up performance. The CGi on Kong was good as well. One quibble was the at times gory nature of the action, given its certificate.

I really liked it as well. Thought it was a big improvement on Godzilla with the human characters being a lot less bland if nothing else.

It says a lot when the CGI scenery is the most noteworthy element of a film lads. I agree most of the soundtrack was great, but even that was only for the first 30 minutes of a very long 2 hours.

As a popcorn flick I can't complain. Some decent set pieces but Tom Hiddlestone was woefully miscast. The young lad enjoyed it but found it dragged a bit in places and he got bored. He was happy to see "the secret bit at the end" after the credits as 99% of the people there left as soon ad they started rolling.
