What is the best way to learn javascript?

Hi

I'm a 3rd college student, and I want to improve my javascript programming skills, but i'm lost in regards how to do it. I know some basics, such as form validation and the DOM, but how do I progress.

I would ideally like to be able to get up to junior developer standard. What books, videos or any other resources would the developers here recommend.

Wes Bos has a good plain javascript free course that gives a good introduction to what type of things can be done in raw javascript without any frameworks.

It's always a good idea to get an understanding of the basics so that you can make well founded decisions on what framework to lay over.

In addition to Eloquent JavaScript there are a number of other great books that are free online:

JavaScript Allongé (ES5) - This book will teach you how JavaScript works
JavaScript Allongé, the "Six" Edition - updated version that covers ES2015
You Don't Know JS Series
Learning JavaScript Design Patterns
Speaking JavaScript
Programming JavaScript Applications
Building Front-End Web Apps with Plain JavaScript

These books will give you a great base in the language. Don't forget to practice what you learn from them and always try to solve the problem yourself
before reaching for a library.

There are some brilliant resources on GitHub with links to free content on a whole range of subjects.

Thanks I signed up, and completed the first project this evening. He explains the concepts thoroughly.

'Javascript: Understanding the Weird Parts' by Anthony Alicia is well worth it. You'll find it on Udemy for about €10 and it will teach you all the quirks of JS and give you an introduction into the more intermediate -> advanced concepts.

You can also get it for free on Youtube but the videos are about 4 hours long and you can't pick up where you left off. For the sake of a tenner i'd just buy it on Udemy.
