Hi, I have recently set up a Shopify ecommerce website an have set up my account to receive payments through a business current account, do I need a merchant account? What is the difference between a current account and a Merchant account?  Payments are going though okay.

    Hi fcdub

Thanks for getting in touch with us here today.

With a current business account, you can manage the majority of your payments incoming and outgoing like electronic payments from one account to another, lodgements, your own debit card purchases etc.

The merchant account has a separate function whereby you can accept from your customer different type of transactions like debit and credit card transactions. When purchases are made with these type of transactions, your merchant can then apply them directly to your business account.

We hope the information helps. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to come back to us.

    Many Thanks
    Alison
