    Hi,

Anyone got a recommendation for a hear resistant finish for an oak countertop. Would prefer a gloss or mid gloss finish.

I have seen wood taking a battering before. Multi coat with (perhaps) not great for use with foot topped with a couple of layers of topcoat an option?

Surely using a slate granite or otherwise for hot dishes is best option. What sort of heat are you talking about. If it's cooking pots etc then stone or slate would be more appropriate for putting dishes to the side

Oil based polyurethane floor varnish , or two pack cellulose floor lacquer will do what you want, the oil based will darken the wood the cellulose won't, both available in matt satin or gloss finish, a gloss finish is said to be the toughest but if scratched will be most noticeable.
You could also get a gloss finish with Danish oil but it would take a lot of time and polishing and regular maintenance.
