Work on the Med

Hi just wondering how one would start off or get work on a private yacht on the Med. Would it be possible to start off without any experience and work as a deckhand and work your way up from there?

There's one opportunity.

I'd imagine it's a very hard world to break into, you'd probably have to go down there and get work, any work, and hang around marinas and get to know people.

ETA - just realised that you're probably talking about motor yachts. But the same would apply.

You need a few quid in your pocket as the best way is to walk the docks, each and every day, with CV in hand to talk to crews and skippers looking for people. The won't hire anyone with zero experience, it's a dangerous and difficult job that takes some level of skill to do properly and safely.

Probably best to some form of certification first, PSSR , STCW certification for fire fighting/first aid/Personal sea survival etc.
It would at least show that you are able to work on a boat and know how to perform certain functions.

And look the part, they're not keen on hairy fishermen if you catch my drift. Presentation and prestine appearance is mandatory.
