    I'm happy with it.
I bought Cave Story 3D for nice moneys for my 3DS and it still gets mad money, even though it can be had digitally for a lot less.
There's a value in a physical copy over a digital one, especially if the game is a significant one.
While Binding of Isaac is going to be released on a cart in the North America, it is not certain that it is anything but digital in the rest of the world.
If that continues, the Binding of Isaac could be, like Cave Story 3D, worth quite a bit in years to come.
Either way, I'm pleased to have it ordered.
At least I know the quality of the experience I'm paying for, I've spent a lot more on games that ultimately turned out to be either awful or painfully boring.

Right, just preordered Binding of Isaac for the Switch from Videogamesplus in lovely Canada...
    Cost around €45 including shipping.
I don't expect it to arrive in time for launch day though, but it'll be great to have such a cracking game on a physical cart.

It's that good? Never tried it. Those who have seem passionate about it.

I'm a massive fan of twin stick shooters, with Robotron one of my all time favourites.
My 13 year old is a big fan of Binding of Isaac and has explained its hidden depths, both literal and figurative.
    It is that good.
Well worth getting a cheap copy on Steam to try it out.

It's bloody class, me and the gf have 40 hours since Saturday, it's just soul consuming

    Would recommend.

Is sales tax added to that €45 Cidey?

I'd like a trauma centre that wasn't quite as stupid hard as the Wii version. What was that Wii racing game that Nintendo released? I remember that being pretty good too.

    Edit:
Excite Truck!! Man that game was awesome. Even better when I realised I could put speed metal on an SD card and race to that instead of the ingame music.

What's the story with all the different versions - Rebirth, Afterbirth, Afterbirth+? I see some folks over on the Gaming forum saying the latest version isn't the best?

Not that I have time to play it, my farm needs tending to in Stardew Valley. :D

Rebirth is a remake of the original, new stuff, 60fps and upgraded graphics.

Afterbirth is standard DLC, new characters, items, enemies etc

Afterbirth+ is more DLC, new content and makes modding easier afaik.

I've only had it since Saturday mind

Why would you buy it again?

    Why not?.

I have bought borderlands 2 on ps3 Ps4 Vita Xbox one and pc and I start it as a new game every time

Dabilo 3 the same mac, Ps4, 360 and Xbox one.

Sometimes you love the game that much you have to play it countless times of. Different platforms.

Here is another one of these games.

Games that I like I don't mind giveing the game makers more money for.

It seems to be all inclusive.
It's a relatively cheap launch Switch game over there, about a fiver of that price is the shipping of around $7.50 CND.

Just to give an example of my point
    PS3 launch games
    Blazing Angels: 66/100
    CoD3: 80/100
Genji days of the blade: 55/100
    Madden NFL 07: 76/100
    Marvel: Ultimate Alliance: 73/100
    Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire: 33/100
    NBA 2K7: 80/100
    NHL 2K7: 73/100
Resistance: Fall of Man: 86/100 (a legacy score surely, this brown pile of sh1te is a terrible game)
    Ridge Racer 7: 78/100
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07: 81/100
    Tony Hawk's Project 8: 76/100

So, on average, a PS3 launch game was likely to be a 71% game.
    Woohoo....
Break out the red lemonade and buns!

Rather than that big pile of m'eh on a hideously expensive console, €499 or €599, depending on getting the 20GB or 60GB model.

The Switch is launching with LoZ, a game series whose major releases have consistently been high scorers
    http://www.metacritic.com/search/all/legend%20of%20zelda/results
But what if the Switch has high quality games but the games have poor sales?

    That's a problem alright.
For.a significant period of the WiiUs existence that was exactly what happened.

I'm hoping that key franchises like Fire Emblem, LoZ, Pokémon and Monster Hunter will bring in the 3DS punters and the rest will come.
Sales akin to Nintendo's handheld performance will bring the developers flocking.
The home gaming horde will follow when the console is making waves.

I don't think it's as simple as getting in the 3ds crowd to boast numbers and thus 3rd party will come and bring the big titles that will draw more people who don't own any Nintendo stuff.
3DS owners who have mario maker, pokemon, fire emblem, kirby, yoshi games etc, that come across to Switch aren't necessarily the market for big titles like Red Dead 2, Dark Souls. So mght not entice 3rd party to develop.
Sure we might see 3rd party 3ds developers developing similar titiles for the Swich, which could be great, but that might not draw many new users.
How many 3ds users also had a WiiU? No new sales there.
How many 3DS users bought more than 1? I know I did. Most of these won't buy more than one Switch.
How many crappy cheap 2DS were sold? They won't be getting the switch likely.

I don't think the Switch will do 3DS numbers. At best, I can see it doing half that, so circa 30 million. Which would be great but good enough for Nintendo and massive third party support.

Now I could be talking throw my hat and I hope I'm proving to be a complete numbskull and that the Switch just blows everyone away and draws in new users and lapsed Nintendo users.

Seriously in 2 minds whether to get it at launch or wait. I really want to support Nintendo and also play the new Zelda, but on the other hand I had a WiiU and it was a disaster of a console. I'm loving people's excitement for the console and the build up to 'Switchmas' is brilliant. I even love the guy who's queuing up a month early in NYC, that's dedication and the guy has no responsibilities so why the fcuk not? My first console was a nes with the Turtles game and I've had every Nintendo console since. I just want Nintendo to really fcuking deliver with the Switch and not drop the ball again.

So after doing a little searching it seems that Binding of Isaac cost €5 when it was originally released. It seems like the publishers are just profiteering on the launch of a new console if it is really going for €45 on the Switch. Just like Sega charging €10 more for Puyo Puyo Tetris on Switch than on the PS4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,431 ✭✭✭MilesMorales1

Well the boxes is 45. Hopefully cheaper digitally.

Kimishima has said, as has been thought, that Switch won't have a browser on launch. Might be disappointing for some but I suspect for most it won't make any difference with so many devices now, apparently the browser on the Wii U took up half the system memory to implement while still being pretty poor. The fear of exploit as well would be a factor, but it could easily be put on with an update in the future of course. May be added of course later. Kimishima also hinted that they studied usage statistics on it and figured it didn't have that big of a take up on the Wii U. He also stated that support for other controllers may be included in a future update.

He also hinted that information about the eShop may be forthcoming soon i.e. a form of direct perhaps? I think they need to clear a few things up for sure.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth was free on plus for PS4. This was back in November 2014

Charging €45 or whatever it's going to cost is taking the P just a tad. Hence my fiver or tenner suggested price point

I'm not sure a browser is a thing I'd be concerned about.
I think I've owned quite a few browser enabled machines and they are all a pain in the h0le to use, particularly compared to a smart device or a computer.

We see the latest WiiU hack uses a browser to great effect, and that's exactly what Nintendo must want to avoid.

But that's not free, as it has been pointed out constantly.
That's free to be used as long as you are a subscriber.
I would have expected a physical release of the game for the PS4 to be around €30 tbh, and this is a set of dlc added in there, bringing it to €40 or so.
It'll be more interesting to see its price on the Switch eshop.

Well for a new console in 2017 a game like this should be available for DL and not a penny more than $15(steam, PS4) considering it's over 2 years old.

I'm surprised they are doing a physical release given the size of the game <500mb

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,800 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

Well, it's going to be a digital release here for sure and probably €39.99, as it's to be $39.99 in the States.
I'll agree that for a digital release that's extraordinary money.
Shovel Knight is probably a good example, as a digital game it has sold for mostly discounted prices.
Physical copies run for between €20 and €35.
So about €40 for the game on DLC is in the upper range but not mental money.

Some people just get to phyiscal physical.

And I have to agree, I feel the same way. Sometimes a digital file for €5-10 just leads to a load of digital files that never rally get played that much because the next hit is along for only like €5, sure that's so cheap I have to get it.
There's a lot to be said for getting a physical copy in the post or collecting it in the shop. It's a treat.
Also, sometimes (and especially in he case of Nintendo, physical copies are worth something if you sell it on later or much later).

€45 isn't too bad for a launch game posted from Canada. Sure it be nicer if we could have gotten a launch version here in a box for €30-40.
    And the prices will drop.

It'll run you around €95 at the moment!

It's just taking people for a ride tbh like what happens at the start of every gen where selection is lacking. Bar Zelda there is nothing announced I'd buy in the launch window bar snipperclips.
Stuff like Bomberman ain't full price either. If they released that on the PS4, One or PC nobody would look at spending more than a tenner but put a copy on a cart it's worth 40 or 50. Not a chance it is. I hope for greed sake nobody buys it or Konami will only try it again.

I know! I got one from Mallow thanks to you! Way back when you told us all about how the Gamestop map works and said there was one in Mallow. Obviously the person I know who lives in Mallow played a bigger part but you should get some praise.
