I didn't get a photo and it's not the oldest car for sure but spotted reg JIv 977 today - an 85 toyota starlet. What made me smile though was the sticker on the backwindscreen...'I survived the scrappage scheme' :D

89 Diahatsu. Driven by a novice driver. How the **** he got insurance on that and I can't get it on my grandfather's 02 C180 Merc is beyond me.

About 12 years ago I was bombing along the N11 before Bray in my Fiat 128 3p. A couple of mates on board too. I was doing quite a bit more than 120kph too. ;)

Imagine my surprise when an old type Mini passed me like I was going backwards!:pac:

A 95 mk2 Pajero passsed me on ballincollig bypass this morning. I was doing 120 well. The old yokes are carrying speed today.

Rough border county boyos used to employ this very mindset when it came to Laguna splitters back in the day :P

Reputed to do more than 100 mpg. When new.

I don't know why there isn't a modern equivalent. Maybe newer yokes are too heavy.

Kia did (maybe still do) a 1.1 diesel Rio..which, surprisingly, don't seem to be that common.

I've heard great things about these old diesel Charades though..mainly the succeeding model to this.

So did I till I hit the wheel of an unlit slurry tank one night and I had to be cut from the car because it basically folded up around me. Economical they might be but I wouldn't like to be hitting anything harder than a strong breeze in one.

This is a local car. Perhaps my favorite. Owned and driven by an elderly couple in a classic case of car and owners growing old gracefully. It has gone a bit green lately though. And I haven't seen it around lately.

A 95 mk2 Pajero passsed me on ballincollig bypass this morning. I was doing 120 well. The old yokes are carrying speed today.

Over 10 years ago I regularly had drivers of newer cars being stumped at my 200k+ km, 10+ years old 2.0 TS Alfa 155 leaving their brand new cars for dead. One morning, a specific guy in a spanking new 120d wouldn't have any of it - he kept staying on the overtaking lane, when he finally moved he floored it thinking I wouldn't be able to pass, but the old and battered Twin Spark built up a 7-8 kph differential in seconds and off I was; I was actually surprised as the 120d of the time was supposed to be quite a bit faster than my car.

Italy's open roads were a fun place to drive back then, some National (Statali, in Italy) roads would be fully up to motorway specs but with little traffic and zero cameras and drivers were up to the task; I still remember one morning when I formed up a small "train" with a 147 and a 156, both 1.9JTDm, and we traveled in convoy for a good 15-20km before my exit came up...at speeds that'd be grounds for immediate execution if caught. Even in that case, the old 155 had a little bit more than the two younger cars, especially past the 200 marker...
