Yep, that's the seller my wife bought it from. She purchased it for me back in Nov but I only received it Xmas morning so it's well out of the 30 day no quibble return period although I'm not sure I have any reason to return it as in general the footage seems high quality enough and perhaps my expectation of seeing moving number plates with clarity is a bit unrealistic.

So far I'm happy enough with it. I changed the video settings to 1080p and 16:9 but haven't tested them yet. If they show any degree of improvement ref visibility of number plates then I'll be a very happy camper.

I'm actually very impressed with how clever the phone app is and how unobtrusive the camera is.

FYI I am using another Android app to automatically turn on the DDpai app when I'm in the car. I've basically set a rule that every time my phone connects to my cars Bluetooth (which it does automatically on start up) the phone automatically starts the DDpai app. I haven't yet figured out a way for to automatically connect to the M6+ WiFi from within the DDpai app yet but I like the fact once I get in the car and fire it up a few seconds later the DDpai app is open and all I have to do is tap on the "Connect to camera" icon to start streaming and auto downloading clips etc.

I bought a Xiaomi Yi dashcam before Xmas. Very happy with it, great quality for the price... 45 quid on ebay. Thought I'd post about it here for anyone in the market..

It has a few nice features such as a g-sensor... if a shock is experienced it will create a locked file in a separate folder recording 20 seconds before and after shock is experienced.. handy for collisions. Also handy if you wish to flick the cam with your finger and use it to mark and collect videos of bad driving if you are inclined to post them online.

    Spec:
    - Wide angle 165 (I think)
    - Resolution upto 1296p at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps... this was improved with an automatic firmware update.. 1296p now at 60fps, legit too, tested it, no repeated frames.
    - Aperture 1.8, which is perfect for night recording.
    - Wifi - connects phone to cam - handy if you want to remotely change settings without pawing at a mounted cam.
    - Also a few pointless features like adas. You can turn the 'Yi' logo/watermark off, I must have accidentally switched it back on for the video below.

I had a polarising filter for an old slr lens. I decided to buy a step up ring adapter and attach the filter to the dashcam, big difference in quality, see video below, gets rid of most windscreen reflections.

^ Filter is a nice touch, apart from pulling an old lens apart got any where that would sell one cheap?

They screw on to lenses, didn't need any pulling apart.

    Filter

    Step-up adapter ring

I had to file away the inside of my adapter just a little as it was a tight fit and causing vignetting on the video. You can get magnetic filters that just sit on top of the dashcam lens, depends what cam you're using.

The cheaper filters will cause a few stops of exposure loss meaning slightly darker, less exposed video, tbh, I didn't really notice this and mine is chep as f**k. Maybe the night time footage has suffered a bit come to think of it, night video posted above looks a little grainy compared to some night time footage I've recorded with it before.

Seen this today in Heatons for €15

I'd say it's very basic, but surely it would capture something, and be worth a punt in your mothers/fathers/partners car

Cheers for that vid zippy, now I don't have to take a run down to see if my caravan is still ok on the hill lol.
I may get that Xiaomi Yi in the near future, my current smartcam 2 is starting to fail :(

I looked these up on ebay. I was interested in buying one but all the ebay listings say that the menu is in chinese only, did you find this to be much of a setback?

I bought it on geekbuying.com. They do international versions (English menu). It was a bit more expensive on there.

When you hook it up to your phone it does a firmware update. I just read that apparently if you buy the Chinese version, it will detect the language from your phone and give you the option of changing, according to some eBay sellers...

    Link:
"This is Chinese version ,you can download the app to fit language as you want ,any questions please contact us.

APP will automatically identify the language of the phone system. If your phone language is Russian, APP language is Russian, If your phone language is English, APP language is English.
After you download the APP, through WIFI, the phone connection operation of the product / Xiaomi Yi DVR.
APP support: English, Russian, Portuguese, Russian, French, German, Italian, French, Japanese, Korean"

Any dashcam will do. Just disable audio in the settings.

I have a Blackvue 380 up front hardwired with a power magic pro box. It's dated now I guess but does everything I need so happy enough with it. I'd like to add a rear camera though without spending too much - again it doesn't need all the bells and whistles like wifi and apps - recording to an sd card is fine but I would like parking mode and would prefer it to be low profile like the blackvue. Just wondering what people are using as a rear camera? It's a tailgate (ix35) so I don't think one mounted with suction cup would stay there very long with me opening and closing the back door!

I wanted one for my rear also and was looking at a Nextbase Duo and also considered a Road Angel. Not suction cups but the downside is the price tag at €240. I'm sure some on here might have had more luck but I haven't really found a small one for rear only preferably to tap into the feed from my existing Nextbase.

So i xiaomi yi dashcam as my front dashcam, very good, not a bother with it.
Now looking into a rear one. Any suggestions?
Cars a ford cmax so will be easier to get one and stick it to the ceiling before the window instead of the window itself.
Was thinking a mobius. Thinking its better to get one without a screen as the screen will prob be in the way?

Great article on car battery discharge here.

Apologies mods if not the right place - if not just let me know!

If you have an S-Max from that period and don't have tinted windows are you interested in a free set of Privacy Shades? I've been trying to sell mine for ages but just one offer that fell through. At this stage I just want to offer them free, but not to be picked up by someone else who's just taking them to flog on!

If someone can show up in my house in a car that needs them they're welcome to them! :)

what is the camearas like at night time?
    thank for your feedback

Re: Road Angel Halo. If I had an estate or a hatch I wouldn't be mad about this wire (at the rear) unless a tidier job could be done.

    • Optional sound recording with privacy button.

Can't find night footage for the Road Angel but this shows the benefit of having a rear camera.

the remote on my DDPai M6+ stopped working and I thought it was just a battery or something gone. I ordered a new remote and I can't seem to get that one working either.

I have tried to pair it using the iOS App but nothing happens ... am I missing something simple?

I'd be going for a cam that records 1080p. That youtube video makes the footage look terrible, but youtube can be funny when uploading footage making it look worse than it actually is.
