I'd say there's a lot of bored XB1 owners who would take advantage of such a deal.
I'm hoping we'll see soon some details on the new online account service, and how it might work, particularly in terms of games already bought for the WiiU and 3DS

I do have the switch pre ordered, but I also want to get rid of my Xb1, Kinect and couple of games.

    Get it together gamestop!

They have... I saw this on their Facebook page yesterday.

Nintendo needs to copy the XB1 online service imo, as in if you're going to be forced to pay for online then it better be worth your while. A proper account system, proper voice chat. Games with Gold is brilliant value, EA Access is brilliant value (assuming you like at least some of their games) and you also have backwards compatibility with an always growing number of 360 games which is free - unlike Nintendo's plan to charge you to rent a 20 year old rom for a month. Also, have proper sales with decent discounts. On some fronts, they have so much catching up to do. :)

But how much of the value of the Sony/MS offerings is driven by that Warehousing issue that someone was talking about recently - ie that in the volumes they manufacture it becomes cheaper to offload the game at a lower price than it is to keep it in a rented space, driving the retail price down which in turn lets them drop the online price without it having an effect on physical sales. Nintendo on the other hand manage to keep the retail value of their games in and around the release level for the most part, meaning any reduction on the eShop would have a knock on for their retail partners?

Gotta say, the Warehouse Effect is the most interesting phenomenon I've heard about this year, I had no idea it existed.

Anyway, if Ninty don't have the same financial pressures driving down the cost of the software, does that mean they can't offer a comparable value proposition for online? And is that going to drive people away from their online offering? And if so, is that going to result in a loss of revenue that will exceed that of renting a few warehouses and overproducing software titles?

I'm not a Sony or MS owner - how big an attraction is the high availability of cheap big-budget games that have been on release for around 6 months? And what kind of pressure is there on the average MS/Sony player to buy into the big release multiplayer titles early on, when the price is high, vs any penalties for waiting for the price to drop?

'Cause from where I'm standing, that's the big problem with the online. If I'm paying €5 a month (or was it £5?) I want to be playing the biggest and best of Online Games, which in my ad-riddled head means the Battlefields and CODs and Titanfalls of the world. How can you sell me on paying €5 to play Mariokart online when I've been doing that for free for nearly a decade? Especially when the Wii U, failure though it may have been, still has a reasonably active playerbase for the Mariokart game you're proposing I buy again?

The technology is there with the Nvidia chip to allow for a streaming service of games. Nvidia's own Shield TV device has a subscription service called Geforce Now that let's you stream PC games in a Netflix type service.

Not sure Nintendo would ever do this but it would be a great workaround for giving backwards compatibility as all the processing work would be done in the cloud and just streamed back to the Switch.

Nope. Love my XB1 and proper 3rd party support.

I might get the pro controller if this 20% off accessories is true.

That's all very valid. The PSN and Xbox Live services are miles ahead of what Nintendo had offered thus far. To me, a lot of the acceptance of the online service they offer will come down to pricing. If they're not felt to be offering something equivalent to the PSN / Xbox Live services (including free games, free for that month only is nonsense.) then people will not be anywhere near inclined to subscribe. However, if it's considerably cheaper than those services, some of this could be overlooked. I doubt it will be, though I live in hope! We'll see what they come up with.

So who here is going mad and getting accessories at launch? I'm going buck wild and getting:

    Pro controller
    Carry case
    Joy-Con Armour Grip Guards
    Joy-Con Charging Grip
Joy-Con Switch Strap - Red and blue
    Joy-Con Controllers Red/Blue

Along with the red and blue Switch and Zelda. Looking at the guts of €700, am I mad? I don't care lol.

I know, I'm part of the problem :(

Agreed, their online pricing has to be competitive from now on.

    - Any VC games you have bought on 3DS or Wii-U should be free on Switch - do not ask loyal customers to pay again for the same games.
    - Make the process painless - log in with your NNID/account and everything you already own should be there.
    - Reduce the prices of NES/Snes games, they're silly expensive for what they are.
    - Revamp the e-shop, I found the layout fairly poor on the 3DS.

Also, as Banjo mentioned, are they going to make online play a paid service now when it wasn't before? I've no issue with that as long as the service we're getting is better than before and somewhat comparable to the competition. Might have been Jim Sterling that mentioned it but imagine they implemented some sort of Netflix like service with their VC games - they have so much brilliant history to call upon and that folks would pay for - just don't take the piss with the pricing/service.

I hate to sound like I'm always moaning about Nintendo, I'm not (MS & Sony come in for some well deserved flack too sometimes). They just frustrate me more than the other two because Nintendo has been around longer for me, they have the nostalgia factor and they make bloody brilliant games! I want them to make it easier for me to give them my money. :D

I think the only thing I'll pick up with mine apart from Zelda is the carry case and possibly the charge grip.

I'll grab the pro controller if its €64. 80 is wayyy too much.

If you wanted to spend an extra 75 () quid you could buy the set of extra joy cons which will give you two sets for colours. a full red and full blue set.

Just remembered this... That won't work, as they work in pairs, so the sets are left red, right blue... so you'd just have two differently coloured sets.

    Grey Switch
    Pro Controller
Joy Con Charging grip (one boxed doesn't charge the Joy Cons when you're playing.)
    Accessories kit
    BOTW special edition
    1-2-Switch
And then Snipperclips shortly after launch.
    I'm not sure about Bomberman.

I don't want to depress myself at tallying up how much all of that is going to cost me.

I think you can sync the two same colours, so shouldn't be a problem.

The 20% off select accessories when bought with the console deal is up on the GameStop website.

The select accessories are a headset or a choice of 2 carry bags

EDIT there's a few more things but none of the good stuff (pro controller etc)

One would be the wrong way round, so the triggers would be on the bottom...

Regarding the warehouse effect thing a lot of the time it's effective stock control by Nintendo that allows Nintendo games to retain value even relatively low selling titles. It's why it's only major Nintendo disaster that drop in price rapidly and they are few and far between.

The Joycon sets you can buy separately are colour flipped. Left blue and right red. If you can sync them you'd have a red set and a blue set.

so you can't have a full red or blue set unless you started with the Red/Blue console? Ed balls. Hmmmmmm...

Reggie: Switch matchmaking and lobbies handled through phone app
The smart phone app that we’re creating, that will be part of our online service, we believe is going to be a very compelling part of the overall proposition because that’s how you’ll voice chat, that’s how you’ll do your matchmaking, and create your lobby. We also think it’s a very elegant solution because if you’ve taken your switch on the go, you’ve put yourself in a hotspot, you’re looking at get a quick match of Mario Kart in, to whip out some sort of bulky, gamer headset is a bit of a challenge.

So we think we’ve got an elegant solution. That’s a very specific answer to your question.

An 'elegant solution' to a problem that shouldn't exist.

i hope that doesn't mean that online capabilities rely on having your phone on beside the switch all the time with the app to do matchmaking for online ganes.

It's a good idea if you're bringing your Switch out and about but at home I shouldn't have to rely on an app on my phone. That's just complete crap.

Im hoping they mean an app on the switchs ui for when at home and connected to wifi and when you go portable you rely on their phone app for online play and chat.
