What are you talking about, the charger is bundled with the switch. The dock charges it, I'm not seeing the issue.

I think people think that because you don't get the Joy Con charger with it and only the Joy Con Grip that you don't get a charger.
The Joy Cons can be charged by attaching them to the Switch and docking it.

he is talking about the dog shaped controller for the Joycon to clip onto.
the one bundled with the system is just a plastic housing and you need to buy one separate that will charge the joycons

They can be charged by sliding them onto the console

Unless you're planning to play for 20+ hours, there would be no need to charge them during play!

The only other way would be for charging separate/secondary joy cons

what happens when the battery is dead and I want to keep playing in TV mode,
fact that you cant just plug a USB cable into that joycon grib controller and keep on playing is just stupid. it also means you can only charge one set of joy cons at a time with out buying a separate charging device.

my online pre-order was only a fiver and they said I needed to put 50 down to be confirmed one and I should get one day 1. they just cancelled the online order and gave me a standard store pre-order.

And you were able to do this in store?

I can see the problem with the Joy Con charging. Don't know about you, but usually if I'm not playing, I'll turn off and unplug the console instead of leaving in standby. And do we know if standby charging works?

When the console is undocked, is the console powering the Joy Cons? I'd be curious to know how that works. Like would the battery on the console last longer if playing with the joy cons detached?

I can't see a big issue with either leaving it on for an hour after playing to charge the joy cons or if it's really an issue just buy the charger.

I doubt the console is charging the joycons while you have it undocked, that would be the worst idea I've ever heard of.

€32 once off for a charger isn't a big deal. You would pay for it even if they included it, because the price would be 350. It's not included no doubt to keep prices as low as possible, the same reason 3DS chargers aren't included with the 3DS XL anymore.

Joy-Con controllers will charge as long as they’re attached to a Switch unit, even if the Switch isn’t plugged into power itself — they draw power from the Switch’s built-in battery, Nintendo said during a Treehouse livestream on Friday

I have to assume then that the advertised 3 hour battery life (afaik it's 3 hours anyway) considers the joy cons being constantly charged. I know you can stand the pad up like a photo frame but that's not really useful unless you're on the train or at a desk etc. If it seriously affects battery life and there's no setting to turn it off then Nintendo have really dropped the ball. To get 3 hours powering a 720p screen & charging the joycons non stop it must have some whopper of a battery.

I would assume that it have some form of battery saver mode, that reduces brightness and disable charging and wireless communications with the joy cons etc

Would like to see a test now of someone playing from fully charged with them attached and then playing with them detached under the same playing conditions and see if there's much difference in battery life

So is there a chance you could be out and about with a fully charged Switch, but the joycons are about to die from forgetting to charge them, or will they then draw power from the Switch while on the go?

I think Nintendo did a poor job of selling 'Arms' in the presentation because everything I've watched of it and also from a lot of reaction to it, it seems to be shaping up to be a quality game. There's quite a decent amount of depth in it too, combo, blocks etc. Worth watching streaming videos of it as it certainly doesn't seem to be the 'casual' game some have pinned it as. Looking forward to hearing more about it.

I think what people may need to see is the difference between the capacity of the joycon batteries and that of the system.
It's likely that the percentage of the Switches overall power requirements getting diverted to charge the controllers will be negligible.
And, as pointed out, in the power saver menu there's likely to be options about getting the most from the system battery.
A 20 hour play time for the controllers is pretty great, surely any user is capable of making sure that he or she doesn't run out of power, and of they do then they can invest in the charger.

If I remember correctly, this was the same with Splatoon. The trailer was grand but it was all the coverage it got on Treehouse that really sold it

The battery life of the controllers is 20 hours not 3. It's not a ps4

Listened to IGN's Game Scoop podcast this morning and they were all very positive about the Switch. In fact, the only website that seems to be putting a major downer on every aspect of the Switch so far is Eurogamer.

Interestingly, I showed my wife (not a gamer) a few of the trailers and her most positive reaction was for 1,2 Switch! She did love that Mario can use his cap for jumping on now too though.

Eurogamer are always down on everything unless it's something to do with Sony.

Emailed gamestop about my online pre order not showing up on the system in the store I picked for collection and if Ill have to pay this E50 deposit people are talking about.

    Here's the reply I got
"Due to an error on our system some pre-orders placed at Gamestop.ie for store collection didn't show on our stores system

The above issue has now been fixed and your details should now be available on the store system

Please note you will now pay the new price for the Nintendo Switch which is €329.99

Because your pre-order was placed online at Gamestop.ie for store collection you don't need to pay a €50 deposit your deposit was €5

If we can assist you with anything else please don't hesitate in contacting us again

    Kind Regards"

I just hope they haven't put me to the back of the line when they fixed the system and my place in line is from when i pre ordered.

It's sold out in the UK now according to GAME. I would be shocked if Gamestop don't already know their allocation, so I'd say all of our pre-orders are safe so far.

Gamestop Ireland have just posted on Facebook that they are reaching their pre order breaking point so it's safe to assume that all our pre orders are safe.

Grey one is showing up as out of stock on the website now but the blue and red one can still be ordered.

On my GameStop account page it says my in store preorder is down as grey, this was before there was an option. I'd say a few could be freed up when people update their preorders.

They draw power from the Switch

    That's grand.
