Been following this thread for a bit now. Have an online click and collect preorder with gamestop for a fiver. Called them today about amending the order and paying off some more money and he said it wasn't on their system. His best guess was that the online preorders would get allocated to their specific stores and arrive along with the instore ones. So nothing to be done until launch day it seems.

    Called it :P

I just don't trust them enough to have it on the day though.

"his best guess" is different to the best guess of other stores. it's actually one of four best guesses now.

the staff seem consistent in each store that the deposit has to be €50 so I'd go down that route just to be sure.

    And its gone ha.

That's the one I am getting myself I paid for the express shipping when it went up to pre order there last week

Might be getting it a few days later but don't mind at all.

Being honest I am looking forword to the switch as it's near Ps4 graphics in a handheld in bed.

Games wise I will be getting Zelda and don't know. From there I am thinking of getting Rayman again in think be the 4th time buying it. I would consider it one of my fave games of all time. Up there with borderlands 2, Dabilo 3 basically just fun games to play

I'm going for the Neon Switch and ordering Zelda along with, hoping there'll be a bundle including 1,2 Switch.
I have a feeling that the latter is going to be a lot of fun.
Arms is a game that disappoints, looking more like something thrown together quickly, which it probably is.
In fact, Zelda notwithstanding, much of the launch lineup suggests a very short lead in time, I would expect the range of titles arriving, starting the Summer of '17, to be more impressive.
On the one hand it's a real pity that Skyrim isn't a launch title imho, as it would have brought some more previously Nintendo-phobic gamers into the the fold, but then, on the other hand, they were never going to buy into the console prior to 2018 anyway.

Mario Kart 8 is going to be amazing though, but will it preclude the eventual release of a 9th entry into the franchise, later on?
Probably not, LoZ was capable of appearing multiple times per hardware cycle, so no reason we won't see a new MK in 2019.

So, what are the dealbreakers in Japan?
Monster Hunter would seem to be a title that would make the Switch a must have there, and in the west Pokemon would serve much the same purpose.
Regardless of whether or not they promote the console as a home or handheld device, the masses will interpret the machine as they will, and with a Pokemon title on board a device that can roam with the user, it's certainly going to replace the 3DS regardless, but maybe only after a price drop, possibly related to the loss of the dock in a specific package.

The hand-waving at times is hilarious. The dock being a good example. The price is completely off-the-wall. Pity really.

If they can get the library right in a year or two then it could be a worthwhile purpose but Nintendo haven't done anything with the console to draw me in.
(The suggested cost price of the WiiU gamepad smacks of bull**** as well.)

I pre-ordered Mario Kart, Splatoon 2 & Mario Odyssey off Smyths aswell - over the top on my part or do people think they will limited on stock aswell when they arrive?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 985 ✭✭✭earthwormjack

I've preordered the neon one myself but no games yet. Most likely opt for Snipperclips for some co-op laughs and Zelda. Kosuke Yabuki is behind Arms so that's peaking my interest for the game a lot, and going by impressions there's quite a bit of depth to the game too.

Complete physical copy of Binding of Isaac is a definite purchase too, hopefully it's close to the console launch.

I'm looking forward to seeing what's on offer on the Eshop on the first days.
Inevitably the physical releases will be there, as well as the likes of Snipperclips, but hopefully we'll see a showstopper of a VC title available too, perhaps Mario Sunshine or Galaxy1/2

Would there be any problems playing Galaxy seeing as though you needed a Wii remote and nunchuck to play them or would the joy cons work on their own?

I get the impression that the Joycons will simulate the function of a WiiMote just fine, but they've underplayed the connection because they want to distance themselves from the minigame fest that the Wii became in many eyes.

A Warioware Inc title is a sure thing as well, hopefully Rhythm Paradise as well, the latter being the last must have game on the Wii, and if you have a WiiU you would owe it to yourself to pick it up too, it's the business.
But, as for WW, it is a great way to get to grips, pun intended, with the new controller potential, plus it's not an expensive game to develop, neither of them are.

The Region free nature of the console means, too, I can import the inevitable Taiko Drum Master game as well! Woohoo!!!

I don't think I'll lose any sleep without a Borderlands game on my console, then again I'm not their target market, and thank the gods for that.

Doesn't look like they are unwilling, rather that Nintendo are...

Wonder how much of a system update there will be at launch and post launch. Remember the Wii U didn't have some things when it launched?

If not at launch then soon after, such is the nature of the modern games console.
Sure, remember all those times we had to update the Snes and Megadrive.... no, me neither!

Holy ****! I made it to the end of the thread! And now I can't remember for the life of me what my thoughts were on the whole thing. But I feel like I've earned my Switch now. Roll on March!

Gearbox need to release a new Brothers In Arms.

The HD rumble could simulate the amount of ammo in the gun.

You could point to where you want your squad mates to run to next.

    The possibilities!

One of my weekly podcast downloads is DLC, and most of this week's episode was dedicated to the Switch. I think it came off as being quite negative. The title of this weeks podcast (and the overall punchline) seems to be "Yeah, but Zelda...."

    http://5by5.tv/dlc/162

Worth a listen if you haven't heard it before. Also available via your favourite podcast app (search for DLC)

    Hmm,
Not sure if trolling or being serious......

I loved the first two Brothers in Arms games, just brilliant.
I never played the Wii title though.

    Excuse you sir!

I have been waiting for another release of BIA for years. I only played the Xbox/360 versions.

OK, I have marshaled my thoughts, such as they are. I'm too late to join the discussion and I know you've all moved on but this makes me feel like I'm part of something so bear with me, eh?

I'm hoping they use that HD rumble for something special. Mortal Kombat or an update to that gornographic Punisher game - why mindlessly pummel or blast your enemy when you can precisely feel exactly which of their vertebrae you're about to fracture?

I know I'm in the Minority but I looked at Arms and thought "That could be like the Splatoon of punching!".

Speaking of Splatoon, if you have to pay for Online and it's an Online-Only shooter (Don't fool yourself, 1P mode was an extended tutorial with a glorious boss finale), why do you have to pay full price for the game? If there's no proper local vs or couch co-op this time it can go and ****e.

The online subscription offering looks pants, but you already know that.

The translator voice-over on the initial Switch presentation sounded exactly like the guy from "Plumbus : How do they do it?" on Rick and Morty. It might explain the lack of stock, they probably had to repurpose a bunch of the schleem so they're short of dinglebops.

Very upset at how the Joy Con is just the Wiimote reborn as an even more expensive novelty, now even smaller and more chewable. I found teeth marks in my Wii U gamepad charging cable. It's a real concern.

1.2 Switch is not going to sell at retail. Unless it's bundled with JoyCons. It might be time to pre-order it now and cancel if it's not.

    And now I'm purged.
Not cancelling my pre-order, but I can't help but feel weird about not having a game on pre-order, and having the WiiU Zelda BotW comign from Amazon. Maybe I really am afraid of commitment after all?

And erm...Battleborn. They outsourced Aliens I think but should take responsibility for releasing it. While I have been critical of 3rd party support I find Pitchford comes across as a dishonest shill.

Given that he shafted the guy behind the definitive Megaton edition of Duke, I got lucky because I already bought it for my PS3 and so could download the Vita version for free, otherwise I'd have to pay that cnut Picthford money, which I won't do.
edit: Apparently they worked something out, Pitchford gave the dev some work and he's changed his tune. https://techraptor.net/content/duke-nukem-dust-up-gearbox-vs-gobeille
Initially it was Gobeille's only source of income and Pitchford killed it in the digital stores, and plans for a larger release, on the basis that Gearbox now owned all the rights.

Nothing there has anything to do with the Switch, so y'all with your fingers on the "Report" button, Back Off!!!

I've said it in this thread already, I think the switch has so much potential, but it's up to Nintendo to make people not like me who cos I'd buy it anyway want it.

I also think they criminally underutilize the virtual console. They have something that could make up for endless droughts and bad launch line ups, yet they do almost nothing with it.

He often does come across that way. In their defence, the Borderlands are genuinely good.

I'm genuinely still very excited for the Switch launch. Have booked the day off work too! :D

The games industry doesn't recognise half games for half price. Oh, heavens no, what the game industry does is they charge full price for AAA games. That's the end of it. Stop asking questions. This interview is over.
