I pre ordered from gamestop online last Thursday. Paid the €5 deposit and got my confirmation email.

Went in today to pay off a bit on it with some vouchers I had and they had no record of the order. showed them the e mail and they still couldn't find it.

so I made a new pre order and I'll cancel the online one. worth checking if your online order went through though.

they also said the deposit had to be €50 minimum.

Ah ****e, really? I won't get in til Wednesday. I'd a feeling it was too good to be true.

That's a big one for me, it's not going to make me withdraw my preorder but it certainly gives me pause that Nintendo either put no value on goodwill towards consumers or, more likely, put way too much stock in the potential of ongoing sales of their legacy titles.
I know Super Mario Bros 3 is sublime in a way that Crash Bandicoot is not, but as a Nintendo service subscriber they really need to give us something back.
Perhaps if we had a selection of available titles each month and could only select one, but possession of that one would be as long as we are subscribers, it would avoid devaluing the Nintendo back catalogue while giving something back.

Nintendo is really odd in how they look at PR and customer interaction in general. They issue takedown notices against Youtube channels for the slightest of reasons and seem so totally off the mark on how the internet works these days, its mind boggling.

I nearly separately preordered BotW there, after preordering the Switch, ahead of the presentation the other day, in Smyth's.
Hopefully there'll be a nice few bundles available from them, knock a couple quid off.
I'm hoping for BotW, 1,2, Switch and perhaps a Pro Controller or a second controller set, along with the Switch, for about €450 or thereabouts.

That is absolutely ridiculous. If I make an online pre order and it doesn't go through there's something very wrong with that.

Reggie, when asked about a Metroid game for Switch:

“we are aware that there are some key IP that consumers just can’t wait for the next true installment in that franchise’s legacy. Suffice it to say, we’re aware of it, and talk to me in a year and let’s look back and see what’s happened.”

Hopefully that means there's a Metroid on the way!

I'd view that as a firm 'no!'.

I'd view that as "expect an announcement before January 13th next year."
The game could be 2018 or later.

I know it's a big favourite among the hardcore but does Metroid sell well for them in comparison to their bigger franchises? Other M was a flop but the three Prime games were amazing.

I think it would convince a lot of Wii U owners to make the jump. Nintendo fans have been crying out for Metroid for a long time

I've never checked Metroid sales but can only imagine it did well seeing as there was 3 of them. It'd be a system seller for me anyway.

'Here's our new system and Metroid 4'

    'TAKE MY MONEY!!!!'

If Other M was great and flopped, I'd understand.
Other M was pretty terrible though. Not surprising it flopped.

thoughts on mario odyssey game previews? tbh im not convinced. i hope its epic but dunno how it will work the city looks boring imo

I don't know what it is and it looks weird but it's a Nintendo EAD game and everything they touch turns to gold so I have high hopes for it.

I'd go so far as to say Other M was a good game. The writing and the story though were absolute ball bags.

Metroid has never sold that well for Nintendo and isn't that popular in Japan, mostly selling in the West.

And here is the same author's article that addresses some of his own concerns and trys to be more positive about the switch.

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2017/01/14/the-glass-half-full-case-for-the-nintendo-switch/#4ff609db43ad

My opinion of things is somewhere between his two articles if I'm honest. Not as pessimistic as his first but maybe not as positive as his second.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

The two staff were very helpful and fairly embarrassed by the whole thing.

but from what they said it seemed like if you use the click and collect option online then they get a print out in store and then they must put the pre order on their system manually.

I hope I misunderstood them because that's a really long winded way of doing things and had too many ways to go wrong.

they also said that the pre orders before Friday have a different sku to any placed Friday or after and that might be the reason mine was not logged properly.

either way, check your pre orders went through.

I'm fine with the €50 deposit. paid €110 anyway and am hoping to have it all payed off by March.

Do you mind me asking what store?

I'd prefer not to say incase I misunderstood what the staff were saying. They are usually really good and know their stuff in this store.

Regarding expectations for Mario Odyssey, there has never been a terrible Mario 3D platformer, even the poorest rated one, Super Mario Sunshine, is streets ahead of anything on it's console peers.
I don't think we'll have anything to fear from the game, even with the "real world" hub it appears to have, the actual levels appear to be pure Mario challenge and fun.

The more I view this as a 3DS replacement, the more I want it! I wonder what Nintendo's plans are in that regard. Is the 3DS support finished? Will there be a dedicated handheld ever again?

It would be nice if they released a version of the Switch without the dock, for €250 or so.

I think they should hold off on release a dock-less Switch, at least at the moment. I think it will confuse your average person, especially mams and dads and the less confusion surrounding this the better. It certainly didn't help the Wii U.

In regards to successor tot 3DS Reggie has confirmed this isn't the successor to 3DS but instead it's next home console. The line up for 3DS will be announced at E3

There's also 4 high profile RPGs coming to the system that will be exclusive and Dragon Quest XI, which points towards Japan getting on board with this as the new handheld.

Also lets not under estimate how big a deal Dragon Quest XI is for Japan. It's the most popular gaming franchise in Japan and has cache with both the young and old over there. It might also be coming to the PS4 but the PS4 is a disaster in Japan and the small, tidy form factor of the switch is far more appealing to the Japanese audience due to cramped living space and the commuter nature of life in Japan.

Rang the GameStop store I had chosen for the click and collect and they said they would have no record of the pre order on their system and would only know of the pre order on release when they get a print out.

I'm still undecided about getting it at launch but I'd get in touch with the store you pre ordered online with if you 100% want it on launch day.

I like the idea of the switch and I think it's a nice looking piece of kit but I'm not going near it anytime soon.

I think the price is fine actually, I'm fairly sure I paid around €300 for a 3dsxl, although that did come with mario land.

I've preordered Zelda on the wii u. Hopefully they didn't do a hyrule warriors job on it where it's unplayable on the old tech. The e3 footage from last June looked promising.

This time next year if the line up looks decent I'll probably take the plunge. It'll be hard to resist when mario come out. Begs th question why didn't they wait six more months to have a decent line up of original games?

Yeah if you're looking for launch get in and pre order asap. There's huge shortages with only 2m units worldwide.

that would make it seem like the people who have paid the €50 deposit would get preference over the click and collect ones.

unless the click and collect orders aren't taken from the individual stores allocated consoles.

Monster Hunter will be huge on this given the gyroscopic possibilities while battling monsters in handheld mode. Resident Evil too if you are walking down a corridor and the console in handheld mode is treating your movement in real time meaning a monster could be following you from behind but if you turn about it is in front of you, some great possibilities for games such as these and project zero/fatal frame too.
