The rich can use security but politicians are generally subject to one person one vote. Even Putin is sharply aware of the nee to stay popular.

Oh, that's an easy one to get around: just pay both sides.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Well you know Lincoln's dictum about 'fooling the people'.
Only works so far, then BOOM!!

Isn't that essecntially what they do now?
They are, yes, but if the living standards of the average person continue to drop, there will be a point in the near future when all hell breaks out.

It is very easy to accept improvements in living standards, but very hard to accept drops in those same standards, especially if it is due to no fault of your own and there is no way to improve.

It would be very easy for an agitator to stir up an angry mob given the right circumstances. But those circumstances are not in place in Ireland at the moment,

That could not be said for Germany where the importation of migrants from MENA countries has undercut the native German workforce living standards, due to the fact that they're prepared to put up with appalling accommodation and low wages.

A lot of unemployed Germans and the loss of their pride is a fairly sizeable tinderbox just waiting for the right match to go up!

Providing a basic income will remove the stigma of unemployment for these non working people.

Which brings up the question of whether non citizens of a host country should receive the UBI, in my opinion the answer is no, they should be receiving it from their own government, not that of the host country.

I iunderstnad what you mean, but Germany is nowhere near as your portrayed - they place a far higher priority of looking after society as a whole than a lot of other nations.

France would be a better bet, based on what I've read. Or the UK if there's another economic crash.

I'm all for the universal income - and I think it will be commonplace around the world at some point in the future.
