"A rebranded Sony Movie Channel will launch across Freeview, Virgin, and Sky on January 10th 2017, as Sony Pictures Television Networks UK consolidates MovieMix, previously available on Freeview and Virgin, with its flagship Sony Movie Channel.

Sony Movie Channel, which currently exists on Sky 323, will have an enhanced schedule offering favourite movie entertainment with a new look, clearly rooted in film and cinema."

I ask this because they have said that we would get other channels on Freeview in the past but it never happened. Sony Movie Channel would be quite a good channel to get. I am slightly confused because it states that MovieMix was on Freeview already but I never had it and I re tune frequently.

Has anyone heard about Sony Movie Channel joining Freeview too?

Do you think we will be able to get it?

You're mixing up your terminology, Freeview is the UK's terrestrial TV service via a roof aerial. MovieMix is carried on Freeview channel 32 on Mux 5 which covers about 90% of the UK from 80 transmitters. The channel isn't available via satellite, Freesat or FTA satellite.

It appears the Sony Movie Channel will not be available via Freesat or FTA satellite either - http://www.a516digital.com/2016/12/sony-movie-channel-to-launch-on.html

A result of the confusion between Freeview and free to air satellite.

Freeview - UK digital terrestrial. Through an aerial. Not available in the Republic of Ireland except in areas near the border or along the east coast.

Just because a channel is stated to be launching on Freeview does not mean it will be on free to air satellite. There are several past examples of channels launching on Freeview that are either not on satellite at all or are pay TV channels on the Sky platform.

We used to get MovieMix on the aerial but once Saorview's Mux 2 launched, that put an end to that.

Just looked at the schedule - low grade mix of titles, the sort of thing that fills out late evening on an ITV channel or the afternoon on 5Star.
