And taxed for another month. Nice find! If I bought it I probably wouldn't look up when the belt was changed to stop myself getting worried :p

Edit - sod that, looks like the eight valve engine is non-interference. Next best thing to having a timing chain :D

Could drive that until tax is up and sell on still at same price or more.
    Anything off price a bonus.

I had a 2003 with tax and NCT that I sold for €600 last year. Nice to drive, when it worked.

Ambitious price, even with the low miles.

    Two chances of that.

Nice car if you wanted to keep it yourself for a long time, maybe on classic insurance. And if you got it a lot cheaper than the asking price. But it's Paddy spec, with manual windows in the back and no aircon. And they are nothing special to drive without the factory sports suspension.

If it wasn't you could still just get it done for free couldn't you?

You could yeah, just for your own piece of mind though.
I think the airbag throws shrapnel into the passengers face or something.
Not the cars fault but the airbag manufacturer.
Chains are fairly easy to spot, you will hear a very slight wine on the right hand side if they are starting to fail and if bad it will sound like a metal ball in a can type of noise.

I'm looking at this as a replacement if anyone knows it?

02 Celica t sport with decent length test that I'm hoping to get for 1k

My hometown and all Davy :) never seen it before tbh and it isn't a big town. Any recent change of ownership on it?

If I went to view that i'd be starting the bidding @ €750 tbh. You could have bought mine for less.

The reg of that car is familiar for some reason though. The spoiler is from a Jap model, the seats and wheels are from a facelift so it's a bit of a mishmash.

There's nothing in the ad that'd make me think it's a 190, motorcheck doesn't say it either. I'd make sure it's a 190 before I wasted a 4 hour round trip on it. Plenty of chancers out there putting 190 in the ad, knowing full well it's a 140.

Just heard back from the seller there turns out it sold a while ago so my search continues.
I was hoping you would know it as well good one.

I both love and hate shopping for cars! Grr!

Christ that's a stunning motor. Always loved the 166.

I'd say it'll take some selling though at €1600. You'll want to be an enthusiast.

    Looks clean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,601 ✭✭✭✭unkel

And the enthusiast going to buy it, knows he will need to budget for a timing belt done straight away too. Or that the car uses an awful lot of petrol with that old 4-speed autobox. But enthusiasts buying old Alfas don't mind spending a few grand a year on maintenance and a few bob extra a week on fuel. And then there's tax :p

    Hi

My car is bolloxed and need to replace it. I'm getting married in June and as a result of saving etc I have 1000 to spend. I drive approx 100km total commute per day.

I essentially need the car to last until July when I will have more money available to me.

Would this be a good shout ???

Anyone want to buy a jag? Great way to make the neighbours think you're rich!
Boardsie discount applies if you can pronounce my username correctly

Sadly I'm not getting the use of it, what with a merc convertible, an Alfa 159 and an Alfa gtv there's only so many I can drive.
But I am interested in something bonkers :pac:

A V8 S-type at that price is very cheap! Especially with the low milage. I doubt that will hang around, it would be nice if a boards member could snatch it up :)

Great to see a car like that on name brand tyres too, always goes hand in hand with a well minded car.

Not bad. Have an 03 myself. It's as dependable as any Corolla of that vintage but be advised, it is low on power. You'll be revving up to 4k rpm to keep up to motorway pace. Also noticed in the ad that the tax is just out so budget in another 200 euro for that.

    This too shall pass.

I doubt this one will sell as quickly as you say, but I hope I am wrong.

Nice car, but with such a huge tax bill and over 15 years old it will take a lot of time to sell.

900-1100 would be my bet, since 03-05 (2.5-3.0 tax) can't be sold for 2k.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,601 ✭✭✭✭unkel

    That's a nice S-type!

Just taxed mine for 3 months and it's €422. On yours that's even worse at €511. Crazy money. Lovely motors and all, you can drive them with 1 finger on the steering wheel :D

I'll probably get rid of mine when the tax runs out though :(

I disagree. v6 S-types are common and as a result are 10 a penny. The V8 in the s type are a real rarity.

I'm 25 next week. If I can manage to find a classic policy that will let me add this to the gtv, then I'll drive the jag for two months and sell it then.
I think some of the insurers have tightened up what's classed as a classic for cars under 20 though :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,601 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Funny you mentioned that. When I went to see mine I was disappointed it was "only" an '03 and not an older car. A '99 would have gone as an add on to my classic policy (for €50 or something very cheap), but it was obviously too young for that. Had to switch the normal insurance over to it.

My insurer has gone real strict though for new customers: cars must be 20 years old. How do you have your other cars insured though at your age???
