Yeah I just finished The Castle, thoroughly enjoyed it, but to say it ends abruptly is putting it lightly! Its a pity, I really wanted to know what would happen. Reading Metamorphaseis now, which is a very different to The Castle and The Trial.
I have a whacky theory that you can read the career of Steerpike from Titus Groan (the first of the Gormenghast trilogy) as the unfinished part to this

It makes no logical sense but if you imagine he finally made it into the castle not by normal means but rather through a portal in a wardrobe, falling down a rabbit-hole or perhaps just dying, then it kinda works :P .0 -
