Advice on a new TV

A friends TV recently broke down and they are looking to get a new one. They would only use it for normal TV viewing and maybe a bit of netflix. Should they go ahead and purchase a TV that has 4k or should they just go for a regular HD TV?

Their budget is about 500-600. Any advice would be appreciated

Just get a good quality regular 1080p one from LG, Samsung or Sony.
