Is a screen protector worth it?

Just got a new smartphone and I'm wondering is a screen protector worth it or just clever marketing?
Would a case with a flip cover do the same job (if not better)?

Screen protector isn't a replacement for a cover, drop your phone with a screen protector and it will crack.
Screen protector only really protects against scrapes, nothing more.

I would disagree somewhat. A hard plastic screen protector in conjunction with a well fitted cover works really well. I've cracked 2 screen protectors through drops and not cracked the screen. However I don't think it would have worked as well without the cover absorbing some of the impact.

A good protective case that can stand a 1 metre drop is a better option, screen protector is only of use if the phone falls on the screen.

My son has a screen protector on his iPhone, at my insistence. He's slightly clumsy tbh. Dropped the phone, screen protector cracked phone screen fine. Cost of SP 7 euro versus cost of new iPhone screen.

Tempered Glass screen cover is essential imo.

I've never had one in my life and never scratched a screen. Regularly put my phone in a pocket with jeans. Personally I wouldn't bother. I always get a cheap case to protect against drops though.

Tempered glass screen protector all the way, i definitely think they help protect the screen in a fall, ive had my Nexus 5 3 years and have had one on it since day one, id definitely go glass though they feel much more premium and i havent got a bubble once putting them on. They are quite cheap too.

Somtimes tempered glass protectors interfere with how the phone case fits. I have a gel case and I removed the tempered glass because the case wouldnt fit around the edges properly and it kept lifting the edges of the tempered glass.

    I use tempered glass and a flip case - because I have a throw-happy 2.5 year old.
