Dropping out of college consequences

    Hi all,
    so I'm a first year arts student in nuig and receive the grand for college payments.
    I really do not enjoy my subjects, the course itself or galway and have found it tough to make friends. I know arts isn't for me as I find it too wish washy and know I am wasting my time.
    What will happen if I drop out and start a new course next September? how will the grant and fees be affected?
    any other information is appreciated.

    IIRC you lose your grant, so you must pay tuition, student contribution charge and student levy. Do you mind me asking what course you're doing? I've heard people being able to transfer between courses within their college, I don't know much about this but I'd recommend you look into it.
    Do you have a personal tutor?

    I do arts.
    No personal tutor, and transfering between courses ends early on in the semester.

    If you officially withdraw before 31st January you will only be liable for 50% tuition fees next year, not 100%. Likewise with SUSI, they may pay 50% of your student contribution. You'll be liable for the remainder yourself. It's important to withdraw officially though, through the student records office, don't just stop attending or you'll show as registered for the year and be liable for 100% fees next year.

    i am thinking about dropping out of college but my parents don't want me to. if i drop out will is affect my parents pension.
