LG Smart TV won't recognize my external Hard Drive.

Anyone got any idea how i can play my external hard drive on my LG smart tv. I connected via usb but nothing happens. If i connect a memory stick via usb, it works fine. What is wrong ? Any help much appreciated...

Most TV's will not have enough power in the USB port to support an external hard drive, it will be usb stick only.
