    Help help help

I'm purchasing an older vehicle from a friend in U.K. And am completely confused about how to obtain this new Certificate of Conformity that I need to load online so I can make an appointment at the nct centre to register vehicle for Vrt.

Do I need to send off UK registration document to put car in my name and will it be automatically returned with new CoC docs. Or should I ring DVLA to request same? Any help would be appreciated.

Haven't a clue what I'm doing, or should be doing!

    You don't need CoC.

All you'll need is a UK logbook (V5C) in your friend's name which he is going to give you.

Thanks CiniO for reply, but don't I need cOC to log details online? They ask all sorts of tech questions that can only be found on Cert.

What about the new regs that came in in september?

Yep Colm. That's my problem. I can't seem to locate any info on how to get a CoC as per new regs Sept 16.

    Do you have any knowledge?

Thanks Colm. My first post and managed to already mess it up!!

The car is 2001 Ford Fiesta. Do you think manufacturer could help?

Manufacturer is the best place to go for the CoC.

Maybe best to contact Ford UK for it, but Ford Ireland would be able to get it too.

Expect to pay between 50 - 200 for it though.

    No
They ask all sorts of tech questions that can only be found on Cert.
Where do they ask those questions?

They only apply to brand new vehicles (never registered before).
If someone is importing second hand vehicle, there is no need for CoC, so nothing changed in September in regards that.

My understanding was that the CoC only applies where the car was never registered before ever in any country, ie a brand new car.

Can someone please verify that the COC is not required for second cars?

Can you please confirm that this is correct?

It's not, bought an Avensis 2 weeks ago. Had the UK 'log book' that's all that is required.
Go online make an appointment for a VRT assessment. Bring a utility bill proving your address ie Electricity bill the receipt for the car, drivers licence, the log book evidence of your PPS number and if paying on the day have a debit or credit card they only accept 250 in cash ( I think it's a low figure anyway)
Go to VRT calculation page on ROS it will give you an idea of how much VRT will cost.
