"Apple selling a $79 MacBook Pro power adapter without a USB-C cable is a step too far"

I've only ever had one single power supply for my MBP since I bought it. I haven't replaced it nor any cables. Besides, once you buy a new MBP, you have the power supply plus the usb-c to usb-c cable anyway, which you can use for power. usb-c cables are cheap enough, on their own, and vary in price, depending on brand and length.

This guy is moaning because he wants to have 3 power supplies. I think he would be in the minority of people who would own so many power supplies for a laptop.

Quite possibly! Although I'm a charger in work / charger at home kinda guy, so there's two of us :) Anyway, think he is just getting at the point that they could have included the cable to make it a useable purchase. Although I see they sell them separately for 25euro.

Sure you can buy a usb-c to usb-c cable on amazon for €6.

Nice. 1k less is quite the saving :)

Look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

I'd be super careful as to the USB C cable you'd buy. Too many devices including macs have been fried by poor quality cables. It's a bit of a mine field at the moment.

All you can really do is go by the customer reviews.

Be good to see what cables, dongles and adaptors people have bought or are thinking of buying.

I'm gonna go for the following:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B019PHF9UY/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1478984490&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=usb-c+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=417ehcNRZnL&ref=plSrch

    Or this

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01ABS82HI/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1478984490&sr=8-12&pi=AC_SX280_SY350_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=usb-c+adapter

Don't really need HDMi so my just go for the first one.

    &

I saw the non-touch bar version in PC World Jervis St a few days ago on display so some definitely have them.

So what ahs everyone ordered. Be interested to know?

    Mine is still processing 14-20/12

    I order:
    Space Grey
    15' with touch bar.
    2.7ghz CPU
    256GB ssd
    4GB GPU

Don't need that much storage as I have everything backed up to NAS.

Was planning on upgrading I cloud storage 100GB for 9.99 is it worth it?

    I assume you mean 1TB for 9.99.

Do you need that much? Keep in mind, it's mostly only good for backing up and syncing rather than extending insufficient internal storage, though Apple is starting to move in that direction.

I subscribe to the 50GB for 0.99 as that's all I need and the free 5GB just isn't enough.

Yeah I currently have €0.99 option as well. I will see how I get on with that.

Anyone close to getting their Macbook Pro delivered? Mine is between 14-20/12!

Can't wait to get it. All the reviews have been fairly positive apart from the whole dongle gate!

Probably going to upgrade to the 50GB too. The 5GB given should be illegal. :L Apple squeezing every penny as usual.

Mine is down for delivery from November 25 - December 2. Haven't got a shipping notification yet but they have just debited my account, so expecting one soon.

I received my new 2016 15" MBP today.

Still getting used to the new keyboard. Feels very very different to the old 2011 keyboard. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I am impressed with how quickly it starts and runs. I haven't really tried the touchbar yet.

    Just installing apps now.

Got my 13" pro today. It's my first mac so have nothing to compare it to, but feels pretty good to me. The keyboard is not what I'm used to but can actually type pretty well on it. MacOS seems fairly straight forward, I think I've already worked out how to do pretty much everything I need to.

I can confirm the old USB 2.0 devices I have connect up to the machine absolutely fine with the new USB-C cables I bought, the world didn't end or anything like that. I have used the touch bar to change the volume a couple of times so far, that's about it. Oh yeah, I had seen a load of photos demonstrating how the touch bar would work in a third party app using Spotify as the example, so I downloaded Spotify waiting to get some use out of this touch bar. Nope, it was all a lie.

Actually just as I've been typing this message I've realised I have no idea how to quick highlight words when you're typing (Ctrl + Shift + arrows in windows), off I go to Google to see how I do that.

    So how is it going?

Mine is a 4-5 week (14-20/12) shipping when I ordered it on 05/11. Did yours come earlier than expected shipping date?

    Mine is still in processing

It arrived a few days before the original estimated due date. My original estimated delivery date was 2nd Dec. Once the order was shipped, that date moved to 30th Nov. It finally arrived 28th Nov.

Got it up and running last night. Got Timemachine to restore from my old machine, so all my apps, etc were transferred.

The keyboard is weird. Not bad, not good, just different. I am getting used to it. No major issues, but it sounds like I am hammering on the keys, when I'm not.

The touchid isn't working right for me. That might be something I am doing.

It seems good and fast. Almost instant startup/shutdown. Apps are working great (using Photoshop and Lightroom).

It does get hot when working. The top of the unit, beyond the touchbar gets very hot. Not too dissimilar from the previous MBP.

The extra large trackpad isn't a distraction. My hands almost rest on it when typing, but it doesn't cause an issue.

    Overall - I'm impressed.

For anyone interested, the New 15' MBP is in curry's Jervis Street. Had a play around with it and it's a beauty.

Keyboard is very loud when typing. Palm rejection seemed to work very well. Apart from that it seemed very fast.

How iseveryone finding their MBA? Still waiting for mine. Expected delivery 14-20/12

Seen it there on Thursday myself, it was still being setup while I was there though. It does look sleek, and the touch bar blends nicely with the keyboard. I still definitely refer the look of the 13" size overall.

How is everyone finding their MBA?

I've used it for it's main intended purpose last night. I'm impressed with the machine, but very disappointed with battery life.

I'm getting about 3 hours from the battery, not near the Apple expected 9-10 hours. And, from looking, I don't seem to be the only one with this issue - http://www.macrumors.com/2016/12/03/macbook-pro-battery-life-concerns/

Other than it's battery life, I do like it, a lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,767 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

Can you imagine what that battery life will be in 3 years? At around that time, I started noticing with my 2012 MBPR, that there was a battery condition warning when I clicked on the power icon in the menu bar. It currently says Condition: Replace Soon !

When you have CompuB wanting around €700 to do a battery replacement, and factored in with the original high purchase price, You are looking at annual ownership cost approaching that of a car, which is a bit ridiculous IMO.

Apple seem to want Macbook Pro's to become disposable goods with only a 3-4 year lifespan. I find that ridiculous when I got 8-9 yars out of Powerbook Ti.

Not to deny the battery issues that you and others are having, but there's a lot of problems with that article. Running an external display on battery, using well known battery hogs like Chrome and anything Adobe, playing Flash video, etc. That is not light usage.

It's supposed to be a Pro machine therefore those types of apps are entirely normal. Perhaps they should have made an even more 'Pro' model with an SD card slot, USB-A, Mag-safe and a couple of USB-C ports with a larger battery and not so thin. Bet they would have outsold these skinny things, 2:1.

Will the battery life improve over time when the software is more optimised. Surely this new machine can't be getting 3hrs battery life? I'm seriously considering cancelling my order. Just seems to be too much con's for a machine that cost me €2700.

One of the reason for getting a Mac in the first place was the resale value alone. Not sure that this Mac will have that same value compared to the 2015 model.

Snazzylabs (youtube) seriously slated this macbook. For someone like me who is getting there first macbook, I was hoping to be investing in a laptop that would last at least 4-5 years and have a decent resale value at the end. Not sure this is gonna happen.

I just don't want to have buyers remorse when I get it.
