I'd make all the people who want to live in a utopian left wing world move to an island and see how well it's economy does with out all the right wingers to sponge off.

Make writing opinion pieces in The Irish Times illegal.

We're not interested in leftie drivel or man hating articles.

Here anyone can call themselves an engineer. You don't even need to be able to shovel coal on a steam engine anymore.

Nutritionist means NOTHING without a formal qualification. It means next to nothing unless that qualification comes from a reputable organisation.

    It's the qualification that matters.

IMHO if someone calls themselves an engineer then they should be subject to the same rigours that real engineers undergo. Especially things like professional indemnity insurance.

That's true Cap. I'm only talking about nutritionists with degrees.

Abolish: 1) Romeo and Juliet law in Ireland where a boy can be prosecuted for sex even though he would be the exact same age as a girl.

    2) Law preventing death penalty. Instead of life incarceration or punishments, we would try to rehabilitate individuals with temporary restrictions after they leave prison that would be lifted when proven beyond doubt that they've changed. People who continuously reoffend would be executed swiftly. No appeals. No waste of money. Just quick and painless. (Probably have to leave EU for this)

Amend: Laws on legality of LSD and other psychedelics. Remove them from being a controlled substance.

Add: 1) Doctors can't refuse elective sterilization without good reason for males/females where the individual health, financial, or character would have a significant negative impact on the child.

    2) Establish a government branch that deals with social issues specifically in criminal and psychiatric area of an individuals life.

There's a Venn diagram of nutritionists and people with degrees. But if you look closer there's subsets for degrees from reputable institutes and relevant degrees.

Oh and make it illegal for HGV's to brake if an idiot pulls out of an acceleration lane into their path before they have built enough speed.

Everybody should have to give their fingerprints and a DNA sample to a national register. No exceptions.

There was a flood in Holles Street Hospital in 1984 which destroyed all the heel prick tests. A recent law got the ones kept since destroyed.

So yes we used to have a DNA sample of person born in the state on file..

Cool. I never knew that. When did it start? It musn't have been that long ago if they cant use it for sexual assault crimes? If they could, they'd know every rapist before he'd know he was a suspect!

It was never used to fight crime. It's to detect certain genetic disorders in babies.

Put car tax, insurance and NCT charges onto the price of petrol - every driver would then automatically pay them, and the army of civil servants and gardaí who spend their time administering them and inspecting compliance would be released for other work.

End the custom of allowing private cars to park on the roadside - this would release around a third of most roads which could be rebuilt as separated cycle lanes; as more people cycled, rates of obesity, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease would drop, saving a fortune for the health service, and pollution would drop, cutting the country's carbon footprint. With separated lanes, children could cycle to school safely, making them less dependent and more self-reliant, and healthier.

Decriminalise (not legalise) all drugs on the Portuguese model https://mic.com/articles/110344/14-years-after-portugal-decriminalized-all-drugs-here-s-what-s-happening#.tEcpUpymN

Benchmark all politicians' and civil servants' wages against the average industrial wage (and have the wages go up and down with this average). Benchmark politicians' mileage allowances against the norm in the private sector. Allow only one pension to be paid to any politician. Disallow paid private sector work for ex-politicians - so they can contribute their expertise, but not get paid for it.

Build lots and lots of council housing, of high quality; require that 10% of this housing be lived in by politicians, so that they would live the same lives as normal people, and the laws and decisions they make would serve normal people well.

Immediately hold a referendum on the 8th Amendment, so that people could decide whether they want a woman and a pregnancy to have equal rights to live.

Require that all votes - referenda and elections - be held on a Sunday so that schools don't have to be closed down for a day and teachers paid for a day of not teaching, and so that people whose vote is registered "back home" can travel home to Donegal or west Cork to vote.

Institute a year of 'National Service' after school and before further education, in which young people would devote a year to organised work for their country - litter collection, working in hospitals, fixing potholes, driving school buses, working with homeless people…

Institute an apprenticeship system, bringing in highly trained German and East European tradespeople to train apprentices in electrics, plumbing, carpentry and building. Make a basic knowledge of these skills a school subject.

End the nonsense of people being treated as 'self-employed' by greedy companies when they are obviously employees.

Make it a sacking offence for a civil servant to ignore a ringing phone, or to treat members of the public discourteously.

It wasn't to be used for that because that's a civil rights nightmare.
Especially since DNA tests are commonly done using proprietary commercial tests. A DNA test can prove it's not your DNA. But without full genome sequencing there might be fluke match, so best to limit it to suspects.

Anyway there is the opposite approach using Smart Water. You label your things or even yourself with artificial DNA than provide a unique trace.

We threw away a resource that could have told us the prevalence of many genetic conditions which could have determined the best way to allocate resources to them.

Referendums can only be run a minimum of 7 years apart, ridiculous how soon we voted on Liston and Nice Treaties because basically the establishment got an answer they didn't like, we wouldn't have ever run it again had we voted for them the first time you can guarantee that.
