I first downloaded Aptiode from here : https://www.aptoide.com/?lang=en

It's a 3rd party app store - after that was installed I used it to install the alexa app.

    Hope that helps !

I really want this. But how difficult is it to set up in Ireland

I have set up addresspal to get it. Firstly how come echo dot is €149 in Argos. They're not selling the large one. It's only £50 sterling on Amazon ???

So I'm not able to change store to get app but I understand I can use the Alexa UK web address to set it up. I've saved the thread to set up the RTE News flashes. I'm considering Spotify so I can listen to music through it. Has that been achievable for everyone. Again from reading last threads I need to set it up as UK right ?

Is Tune In Radio easy to use on it

Is setting up skills quite easy ?

Overall those that have bought this on a scale of 1-10 how satisfied are you and again on a scale of 1-10 how tricky was it to set up

There should be a sticky with all the details on how to set up for Irish people.
Is there any good post detailing everything

If I was going to get the Dot could anyone recommend a set of speakers ?
Otherwise I'll probably just get the large one for better sound.

I was hooked after seeing it on the ads.

As the echo/dot is officially not available in Ireland I presume that is an oversight from Argos. No stock showing anyway.

There is an FAQ thread you should read re echo/dot that should answer some of the other questions.

    Thanks Degsie

I'm trying to order on Amazon UK but it keeps saying please enter valid Street details - using address pal

    I've enterered the long number
And I keep getting that error
Also tried changing order and putting number somewhere else

    Anyone run into that issue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,761 ✭✭✭degsie

Not a good idea to publish your addresspal details on a public forum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46 trevor1973

Sorry, I thought it was the same addresspal for everybody
Obviously it can't be. Silly me
How do I fix that issue

What power supply does it come with ? I know you need a separate micro USB cable if you want one but there must be something to plug it in ?

Jaysis, that's a lot of questions... but I'm feeling generous :D
    trevor1973 wrote: »

Not difficult at all. Plug in, initial setup using Android/iPhone app, or website linked to earlier
    trevor1973 wrote: »

I have mine as UK because I prefer the voice to the Stephen Hawking-sounding US one. Yes Spotify integration is simple, just set up initially using the app.
    trevor1973 wrote: »

Yes for most stations. Irish stations are not too easily picked up ... yet
    trevor1973 wrote: »

Pretty easy alright for basic skills, but you really don't need these for the most part. I set up a Skill to control Kodi on my Fire TV using my voice which took a bit more work. Lots of online tutorials.

There was talk of one. Never materialised.

The Dot has surprisingly decent sound actually. I'm listening to Spotify on it now without the Bluetooth speaker.

Bluetooth speakers... depends if you want decent or great sound.

    Decent: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-SoundCore-Dual-Driver-Distortion-Microphone/dp/B016MO90GW/

    Great: https://www.amazon.co.uk/JBL-Charge-3-Bluetooth-Active/dp/B01FQVHGSG/

(although I picked up one from the Amazon Warehouse for £88 this week)

The FAQ which answers most of these questions and details on setup is here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057668556

It needs a little bit of updating and to be stickied, but mostly there.

Just thought some ECHO users might be interested in the GU10 starter pack now £119 on amazon. Normally £149.99

If the echo dot drops by a tenner this week I'll pick one up for the craic but have a few questions about it, these are probably already answered so I apologise if they have but the thread is too big :P

I primarily would be using it for controlling Hue lights, I guess it integrates with these without too much issue?

Will it recognise anyones voice? I want it to be able to recognise anyones voice so anyone in the house can control the lights using the Dot, I guess this is possible it's not locked down to one person's voice is it? Just one account?

Also how does the dot link up to other speakers, I have a Yamaha sound bar, would it be possible to hook the dot up to that?

Finally has anyone got Google Play Music working with it?

Anyone can use it, not locked down

Connect it via a 3.5mm cable, get a nice long one (3m+) so that the Echo Dot can pick up your voice over the speaker

Also pick up a long USB cable if you want the Echo Dot to be situated away from a plug socket, like in a bookcase
Finally has anyone got Google Play Music working with it?

Nah, just Spotify and Amazon Prime Music

    Yes, yes, 3.5mm/Bluetooth

No to Google Music directly. You can stream Google Music from your phone to the speaker via Bluetooth. Google Home is better for Google Music, obviously.

Yeah actually, one side effect is it will make your Yamaha soundbar bluetooth-enabled for sounds coming from your phone :)

Its already enabled so no benefit there I'm afraid.

oh right.. then you don't need a 3.5mm cable :)

Just bluetooth from Echo Dot to soundbar

True, though typically the 3.5mm cable will give you better sound quality and greater reliability.

Probably depends on how picky you are about sound quality vs convenience. Differences would probably be negligible and I haven't yet had the bluetooth connection drop in a month of usage.

Despite bk's wonderful content in the other thread, I'm going to get a Dot because the missus has been pestering me for present suggestions, and a soundbar too to install in the kitchen. Mainly because I know she won't have a rashers how to get a GH from the US.
The dot is cheap enough that I won't feel bad about moving to GH in six months, and small enough that it won't look crap.

I'm looking for a relatively understated soundbar - something that could be mounted under a kitchen press to keep it out of the way.

Any suggestions on a decent budget soundbar to pair with the dot - something around the 100-ish mark?

Yup that is how I justified to myself a Echo (for £100 pre-order) and a Dot (basically free with the Netatmo Bundle) and now the GHome.

They certainly won't go to waste, I was using the Echo in the living room and the dot in the bedroom. However now that I've almost everything working on the GHome, I think I'll put the Echo in the main bedroom and the Dot in the babies beedroom along with the UE Boom 2 I just ordered. The boom 2 can then go portable into the bathroom as the OH likes music while taking a bath. Or out in the garden.

If I eventually go fully GHome, then the Echo and Dot will make for great gifts and really not too expensive at all.

Maybe a bluetooth speaker like a UE Boom 2 or the Anker one?
