Cool, you don't know how long I've being looking for a car in which the engine; gearbox; turbo; clutch & flywheel are 1,000,000%pacman.gif

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/diesel-ford-focus-2005/12965710
    2005 Focus 1.6 diesel saloon;
    180k miles and tested until 05/2017;
Asking €975 but if still not actually sold I'm sure the seller may even talk on the money as ad is 60 days old

No doubt you'll have to budget a few hundred for a belt change, but a 04 147 1.6 with NCT to 6/17 and a few weeks tax for €400 seems too cheap really.

Stupidly light on details, but a manual 940 turbo estate with NCT to 4/17 and running on LPG for €700 seems a great deal. Practicality!

I'm nearly doubting this is as good as the ad claims, bc it seems unbelievably cheap...buut, 04 S type 2.5 auto, 4 new matching tyres, claims of full service history, two owners and NCT to 4/17 for €999. I know these are cheap cars now, but I'd pass something like this on the street and immediately think "thats a €2k+ car"

    Looks fantastic,

I'd be 99% sure its an import as well so it wouldn't be miser Irish spec

Nothing spectacular, but a 2.0 manual CLK with NCT to 2/17 for €350. I suppose you could do worse on a Winter runabout!

Had that engine before in the coupe and it was truly awful, broke my heart. However ultimately depends on the individual car and its previous upkeep.

    Seems keen to sell fast

What happened to your engine? I had 3 cars with that engine this year and 2 of them had 200k miles (322k km) on them and the engine was fine. And the 3-series BMW is one of the hardest driven cars around, and believe me you have to work that engine to get performance out of it. This engine is obviously very strong and reliable.

Why would you buy one with that awful Peugeot diesel engine when for less money you could get one with a decent petrol engine?

I thought they had a Landrover engine in em?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,330 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Nah, PSA diesel. The engine is also used in Landrovers though and it is manufactured in the UK (Dagenham iirc), so maybe that's why you were thinking it's a Landrover engine? Not a very reliable engine though. And the tax is more than the 2.5l V6 petrol (and only a tad less than the 3l V6 petrol)

I'd avoid like the plague. The last thing a comforable luxury sofa on wheels needs is a tractor engine anyway :p

Id have the petrol anytime before the diesel. Those 2.5 also came with variable valve timing iirc. Something i wish they had done on my own one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,086 ✭✭✭✭Duke O Smiley

Ah right, yeah I know they're used in the Landrover but I presumed it was LR's own work. But its the same one from the C5 V6 and the C6 then!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,330 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Yep, same engine! Also in the Peugeot 407 / 607

    Didn't know that.
I know to fit a turbo to one in Land Rover you need to remove whole body off chassis.
I thought those 2.7 diesel Jags were incredibly fast and powerful with good fuel economy compared to the petrol models.

Is that an easy fix that only requires a change of fluid?

Nah, the diesel is slow, sounds crap and is not reliable. If you do big miles and need fuel economy, I recommend not buying a near 2 tonne Jaguar S-type anyway ;)

Who knows. Oil + filter in the box might sort it but why would you take the risk? If the car was free and you could do the work yourself, sure why not. But the car doesn't even have a current NCT and for that reason alone shouldn't be in this thread at all tbh...

No disrespect, and I don't want to sound like a dick, but maybe you should have a good look and read at what other people post here for a while before posting again yourself?

Or just read the last 10 or 20 pages or so and concentrate on posts with a lot of thanks. They are generally accepted to be good bangernomics offerings!

A lowly 1.6 four door, but this is the model that would appeal to a weirdo like me. NCT'd to 7/17 and a heap of recent work, €1250. Classi-nomics at its best

I'm not really a huge fan of these, but for €999 with NCT to 3/17 it would make a great upmarket winter runabout.

I like GTVs. And that looks like a nice example. I would like to see the receipt for the clutch and gearbox (that would show that the owner cared more for his car than his money - this is often the case with Alfa Romeo fans!)

Price is strong and NCT is short (2 months). If the owner will really put it through early like he says in the ad for an 01/18 NCT and if the belt was done no more than say 3 years ago (and not big miles), then the car represents good value (although I would strongly negotiate - use the fact that the car will be 15 very soon in your advantage). Car is still taxed too.

Nice young timer, getting rarer. It will be going up in value quite a bit over the next 10 years or so. Personally I'd buy the 3l Busso and put it in storage, but this car could also be a very good choice if you want to use it as a very affordable second car

You saw that I thanked it, before you thanked it yourself ;)

Lovely looking car, if you do put in the big miles. For max tax, I would want a V8 petrol though. With an LPG conversion if I ran a high mileage. They should have kept diesel a thing of the 20th century :p

    I know that car actually.

Nice example of one, the owner is a nice guy and has a really cool Citroen DS that he is rebuilding. Can't say much about what work would have been done to the GTV but its a straight example anyway!
