Just wondering if anyone has come across a similar fault and can point me in the right direction.

I've noticed for a little while that on starting in the morning the car would judder in 1st or reverse when I was driving / backing out of the driveway and possibly again at a few junctions until the car got warmed up. Not always, but maybe 50% of the time.
Recently I thought I got bad diesel as I dropped 10mpg after a top up from a station that wasn't my usual haunt. I went out one night to pick my son up from the cinema and it was a cold night. The car took off fine, I went to drop his friend home too and going round a roundabout she juddered and I got her coasted to the otherside and pulled in. Hubby came, we swapped cars and he got mine home after about 6 start stops. I went out then two evenings later to driver her to my mechanic and off she went like a rocket, not a bother on her.
I got her a full service and my mechanic drove her for a weekend and had no trouble at all.
I've been driving her for a week since, no trouble, then last night after a cold start she makes it about a mile and a half, does the same. I stop, rest for 5 mins, start and let it tick over for 5 mins and I get another few miles. Stop, wait, tick over and I'm away grand for the next 10 miles.
This morning I start and let her tick over for 5 mins and I'm gone going up a hill to a roundabout approx. 2 miles into my journey.
I would describe the car as juddering and when I press the accelerator it feels like I'm actually braking.

    Any ideas?

    Appreciate any help!

When was the fuel filter last changed and was it a genuine Honda Filter?
Fuel filter is very important on these engines and its a known issue that spurious filters will cause problems.
If it hasn't been changed in the last 6mths then I suggest getting it changed for a genuine Honda one.

Yes I've had all genuine filters put in at this last service a week ago. I did have an issue this time last year when the mechanic the hubby had been taking it to had not changed the diesel filters in the two services he had done. Even though I'd bought the whole kit, think he couldn't be arsed changing it and didn't tell me. So I've changed mechanic, obviously. Definitely changed this time.

I doubt it's the high pressure pump, these are Bosch and don't give any major trouble.
It could be air in the system after the filter change or possibly an EGR valve fault.
They get gummed up if the car does a lot of town work.
You could try blanking the EGR and seeing what will happen, it will throw a fault light but if the power comes back you know what the problem is.

I'll give that a shot. No codes were coming up last night after she rightified herself, but I haven't checked today. Odd.

    Thanks !

    +1 with what CJhaughey says.

Maybe try bleeding the fuel system.

then try cleaning the EGR, couple of tricky bolts but remove the expansion tank gives a bit more room...

Thank you, that'll give hubby a few things to tinkle at this weekend.

EGR isn't that bad a job, I did mine this summer as well as the whole intake manifold. The EGR was about 60% blocked with soot, cleaning it made a big difference to throttle response.

I think you answered your own question, you got the filters changed last week and now you have a problem. Most likely something simple, I'd call the chap who serviced it.

It was a reappearance of the same issue once the cold temperature returned.

Based on experience on another vehicle a few years ago, check the pipes to the fuel filter. Not long after a filter change, I had an intermittent issue where the engine would start, and idle, but when asked to produce power to drive, it misfired and would not pull.

Took a while to find, the fuel pipes on the filter had hardened with age, and the clips used to hold it to the filter body were a squeeze spring type to facilitate quick removal, (the quickest way to change the filter was to remove the entire unit from the vehicle) and because the pipe had hardened with age, the clip was no longer strong enough to get a good seal on the pipe, so it was drawing air in, which was then causing the mis fire issue. The air leak was small enough that the primer bulb on the fuel filter was able to re prime the fuel lines after changing the filter, which confused the issue, and there was no leak when the vehicle was parked up to indicate the location of the problem.

The solution was to change the spring clips for a traditional screw operated hose clip, which provided a tighter clamp of the hose on to the body of the filter.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Thanks - I'll check that. We did the dipetane redex rev the heck out of it thing and she was top for a while, but cold start again this morning and she only made it a few hundred yards. Got a code up though - injector! At least we have something to work on. Will check those pipes too, though - definitely got dirty diesel a while back and I think there is still gunk in there.

Air in the fuel system can cause major damage to the pump and in turn the rail and injectors on these fuel systems.

If the fuel filter has only recently been changed, this may be the case. You'll want to check the system for metal filings/swarf.

Id hope that 2 years later they have sorted it out

Filters only changed last week. If not bled it can leave air in the system.
