Yep, podcasts still not available for Ireland in Google Play Music and it's been around ages in the US. No logical reason for it.

Not to mention the crazy amount of apps they release and discontinue. For such a successful company they comes across as very disorganised, lacking in long term vision.

FYI somehow I have podcasts on GPM. Think I had a US address on the card in Google Wallet I used to subscribe (may have had US VPN when adding card too).
They recently cancelled it with no notice after having it for 4 or 5 years. Podcasts still work fine with no subscription.
Have moved to Spotify which has podcasts too but annoyingly they don't seem to have Football Weelky on it.

Back on topic, it's annoying the hoops you have to jump through if you want to get one of these in ROI?

Anyone order from Google Play UK store? I done it years ago for a tablet with no major issues. They may have blocked card afterwards through for Play Store purchases or maybe I tried to add same card to another account. It was a good while ago, can't remember exactly.

Thanks but it's exactly as you said, hoops to jump through for no good reason so we can listen to podcasts.

Plus all your podcasts and progress could be backed up with your Google account. I know there's podcast apps that probably do this already(backing up to the cloud) but it's one less step when you're restoring your stuff on a new phone.

Has anyone headed up north and tried to buy one? I'm unable to place any orders on the Carphone Warehouse and Currys website with my ROI card.

I ordered on the google play store using tunnel bear and used a revolut card with the address set as the parcel motel address. Got my shipment notification today so hopefully have it either Saturday or monday

I got a friend in the North to order one for me in the Google store (5", Black, 128GB). I ordered it on the 14th, he got the shipping notification yesterday, and it arrived in my Parcel Motel this morning :D. Very early days yet, but so far I love it.

It's replacing a venerable Nexus 5, so it is a significant step up in performance, but also in look and feel. It definitely feels very premium, and looks a lot better in the flesh than in pictures. The wedge is very subtle and well done. It does have some slight HTC vibe about it (not surprising really).

Considering doing similar (and from a nexus 5 aswell) as a couple of my workmates are from the north. Still not sure if I can justify the price

Would it be better to get them to order from carphone warehouse or the google store? I'm thinking the google store as when I had a problem with my nexus 5 it was sorted with no problems

You probably didn't order your Nexus 5 from the UK Google Store, though!

True. That's most of the reason why I don't know who to order from. If it was in the Irish Google store I'd definitely get it from there.

Think I'm going to wait until it's in stock in the Newry store and take a drive up, as opposed to going online!

Problem with the Irish Google store is that it'll end up costing a sh*t-tonne more than the UK one/CPW.

I remember reading in the past that Google do not attempt repairs if there is a problem with a phone under warranty. So if you bought from the play store, you d get a new one sent out. Any other retailer would attempt a repair and send a new one only as a last option.

Worth to consider, but the process won't be easy as before as technically it is not sold in Ireland. So ROI people will need to go trough the PM route all the time with higher costs, risks etc.

EU consumer rights should still stand though in case a fault develops.

That's what happened with my nexus 5. The USB jack broke and they just sent me out a new phone and had me return the old one.

Had Nexus 5 for nearly 3 years now, bought through Google UK, did need to return it once through PM, Google sent replacement phone immediately (I remember ringing them on a Sunday and having it Tuesday, great service)
That wouldn't put me off..... The price of pixel might!
Although I'm wondering are Nexus 5 owners the type will keep this phone for the next 3 years and I'm thinking maybe....?!!

I've had my Nexus 5 almost three years, and I fully expect to have the Pixel at least as long (probably until it stops getting new Android releases).

Supposedly getting two years of updates.

That just means to the latest versions of android apparently. Security updates will continue longer.

I suspect it's only guaranteed updates and will probably be longer than 2 years plus they seem pretty easy to root and upgrade yourself anyway.

Tempted to make a trip to Newry for one, they're in stock!

If you've got nothing better to do on a Saturday night, you can watch a pixel sitting in a bowl of water for an hour...

Has anyone bought one from carphone warehouse yet?

Seems like the handiest way to get a hold off one of them. I imagine there shouldn't be any issues as long as you get a sim free model.

Any issues so far if you've picked one up directly?
