    Official Press Release

    http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20161020005938/en/Nintendo-Switch-World-Premiere-Demonstrates-Entertainment-Experiences
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In an introductory video released today (http://www.nintendo.com/switch), Nintendo provided the first glimpse of its new home gaming system and revealed that it is called Nintendo Switch. In addition to providing single and multiplayer thrills at home, the Nintendo Switch system also enables gamers to play the same title wherever, whenever and with whomever they choose. The mobility of a handheld is now added to the power of a home gaming system to enable unprecedented new video game play styles.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like”

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch Dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to portable mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment.

Gaming springs into action by removing detachable Joy-Con controllers from either side of Nintendo Switch. One player can use a Joy-Con controller in each hand; two players can each take one; or multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options. They can easily click back into place or be slipped into a Joy-Con Grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, if preferred, the gamer can select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to use instead of the Joy-Con controllers. Furthermore, it is possible for numerous people to bring their Nintendo Switch systems together to enjoy local multiplayer face-to-face competition.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America. “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.”

Developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, which gives gamers the freedom to choose an experience that best suits them. Some of the publishers, developers and middleware partners announcing support for Nintendo Switch are as follows:

This really does look like a nice piece of kit. Hope its priced right now and has enough horsepower to run 3rd party games and Nintendo could be on to a real winner

Haven't been this excited for a new console since I first saw the Xbox 360. They've nailed it and this could be HUGE. I'm by no means a Nintendo fanboy and didn't even bother with the Wii U but this has me really excited. The gap is there in the console market too. I have both a PS4 and Xbox One and I'm bored with them for the most part. There's been no real innovation from Sony or Microsoft in close to a decade and this feels new, different and could see Nintendo get right back into things.

The second pre-orders go live, I'm jumping in.

Looks amazing. Day 1 purchase for me, and last Nintendo console I bought was a GameCube.

That looks great. Great ad to go with it, many more casual gamers will watch that ad compared to a direct or anything like that.
So anyway I was right all along with my predictions;-)

Looks really slick, detachable controllers is a great idea. Big question is how powerful is it and will 3rd parties leave it behind.

But why? Whats really innovative here for you? I'm just not seeing it.

Lads everyone's forgetting the biggest news: it doesn't have a really ****ing stupid name. Result!

The only thing is, they absolutely have to nail online. If that means a subscription service to fund it, so be it, but in the current climate a poor online infrastructure could kill it.

Looks great! Definite day 1 purchase (although that was always going to be the case!)

Noticeable that Rockstar aren't on the list of developers. I wonder will they be added after their reveal at 4 today?

Wondering if that Wii U pro controller pro I picked up on lightening deals a while ago will work with it

No Mans Sky part 2 :D

I think I will wait to actually see reviews of the console and analysis of actual gameplay footage running on the device before I get excited and commit to a purchase.

However I do like what I see so far.

And car journeys for the kids in the back on long journeys for me, really sociable looking thing, and if it gets people on board, local multiplayer might get the kickstart i'd personally love to see. I miss the days of decent local multiplayer.

Was that Mario Kart 8? Or another one? I noticed you could have 2 powerups, a bit like Double Dash...

Looks like a mix of Double Dash & 8. The 2 powerups & King Boo are from Double Dash but there's only 1 driver in each car like 8.

Early impressions is that it's a different and really nice looking piece of hardware, I think that was important after the confusion with the Wii U.

Great that 2 devices could provide some fun 2v2 games on the go. I like the idea of it, so I'm interested to see more.

Loved it. They nailed the Video. Concept done in 1 video where WiiU couldnt so thats a plus.

    Pros
    New Mario
Old WiiU favourites return for on the go
    Zelda
    Pro Controller
    Detachable Controllers split thats cool
    Graphics great for mobile
    March 2017
Fun and keeps Tendo multiplayer magic
    Carts are back
Name is ok and understandable worldwide

    Cons
    Detachable faceplate part looks horrid
    Pro looks like Accessory only.
    joycon name sucks
    Take 2 = Red dead 2?

    Questions
Dock seems to update as mention portable mode enables
    Triggers Analogue?

They've DEFINITELY got the Third Parties on board too. If they launch with a big lineup (20+ games), they won't be able to stock shelves fast enough.

After watching that, I've gotta get that day 1 pre-order in to ensure I get one!

Yeah that's what first caught my eye - it looks like a nice piece of tech, for grown ups too! So hopefully is has the internals to back it up. I've been mostly disappointed with Nintendo showings of late (excluding Breath of the Wild) but Switch has me genuinely excited - swore I wouldn't buy another console at launch after the Wii, but this might tempt me to go back on that - I do love nice tech. :)

Think it was confirmed a while ago it would be compatibile with WiiU Pros, looking at it there is not much physical change between the WiiU and Switch Pros in terms of button placement, layout.

Take-Two are in the list of developers...nice.

I'm a bit worried about the controller not having enough buttons for games being developed for the PS4 or Xbox One as well. It looks like there are two shoulder buttons when the two controllers are docked but it seems to have only one on each when they are both detached and used separately.

One of the things that seemed to be a problem in the last couple of generations for Nintendo was third party developers trying to get a consistent control method no matter which physical controller was used on the Wii or Wii U and then mapping the controls with less buttons than Sony and Microsoft's consoles.

    Still though....this looks great.
