A finance option for a phone is ridiculous, that's just utter madness  Be glad there is no such thing here!

Getting a "subsidized" phone on bill pay is essentially the same thing.

Interested in picking up the Nexus 5x now. Will the price drop any more than its current? On amazon at the minute for around £260

    Try eglobalcentral for the 5x

So is there any Irish option for this, or a UK company that will take a VAT number?

Trying to buy this for work but need to be able to get the VAT refund or purchase it ex VAT.

seriously man. first they gimped the nexus 5x (no ois, even though its predecessor had it, no stereo speakers) for the 6p.

now they are gimping the 5x and 6p on 7.1 for the pixel phones. wtf man.

I still think the assistant will turn up on 5X and 6P. Google has said that it will also support the last generation of phone models.

Assistant is on Allo at the moment. I've been training her for a 2 weeks now in prep for the app and google home :P

It also sets a bad example to buying into their ecosystem, if after only a year its "screw you guys" buy our new crap as were not supporting what we sold you last year anymore. This is on top of how fast Google is to drop support for a service out of the blue like Hangouts, Google Now and Google on Tap.

Also, WTF is the point of Google Home? They went on and on about how people keep their phones with them at all times during that keynote, then expect us to buy something our phones can pretty much do at the moment!

Provided they continue to do software updates as originally stated I don't see the problem with having recently bought one.

While the Nexus 5X and 6P will reportedly be upgraded to Android 7.1 later this year through a developer preview, they are unlikely to get the Assistant built into the core OS, relying on legacy versions of Google Now and Now on Tap, recently renamed "Feed" and "Screen search" respectively, in its place.

    Update in name only?

Strongly considering selling my 6P to get as much back for it as I can and getting the One Plus 3.

Are other non-google android phones getting assistant? And isn't assistant (at the moment) mostly a rebranded google now?

Will you get assistant on the one-plus?

    Also, I'll give you €3.50 for your 6p? ;)

You buy the Nexus, or whatever, latest Google phone to hopefully get all the latest Google stuff for a couple of years. That's not happening.

6p was over priced as that's what you were paying a lot of money for, is it better than the one plus 3 hardware wise?

You're probably just as likely to get a Pixel like ROM for the One Plus 3 as you are for the Nexus 6P and you'll have saved yourself a lot of money.

Flashed Android 7 AOSP Rom on my Nexus 4 which is still an entirely capable phone (but the battery is shot at this stage). This is the problem for Google, more updates for Nexus does not mean more money. More expensive phones with new features means more money...as you are now tied into yearly update cycles to get new features.

Rom flashing be the new update path for many a Nexus user....we all wont have the Assistant though.

That's like saying iPhones are cheap. Build quality has been what always set HTC apart?

You expect the pixel to be poor build quality?
I had a HTC M7 that needed to be returned for repairs 3 times. Before that I had a HTC Desire that started shutting itself off at random intervals. Both phones suffered from lag and slowdown after a year. The phones work great out of the box, but just aren't built to last at all. No comparison between HTC and the Nexus range, which was always superb.

I still have my HTC Tytn II somewhere, in decent working order!

I don't know how you can say that Nexus devices are all great, when they're made by a bunch of different manufacturers, including HTC.

About 720 euro will lift one in CPW Newry when they land (Pixel 32GB). If I can get 400 for my S7 Edge then it'll be worth the trade, just need to decide if I'm done with the Samsung.

Will CPW devices work OK in Ireland? Spoke to them today and they said their devices only work in UK, but I'm assuming this is bull**** and they only say this as part of their sales agreement in terms of territory and agreements with suppliers?

Also, I assume the CPW devices locking to first sim card only applies to iPhone and not Android phones? Again, I assume it's bull**** as it says on their website it's iPhone only, but the guy on the phone today said it was all phones. Sales reps are very annoying at times.

Only reason I'm considering CPW is for the £50 gift card.

I think some Samsung phones lock themselves to the first sim card as well or at least they did. It's not very common though. Also, the UK phones will work here as long as it's unlocked.

AFAIK the Pixel supports all frequency bands for 4G and Calls/texts etc. So the only thing that would prevent a Pixel from CPW working would be sim lock status.

Yeah I guessed that, either he was clueless, afraid to get in trouble, or just didn't want to help. Thanks for the reassurance though.

Also, I posted earlier about finding a VAT free method for business purchases, and while CPW won't do it using your VAT number, you can just do a VAT refund through ROS if you're registered for VAT in Ireland, through EVR. In case that helps anyone here with the price. Essentially the base model can be purchasedfat what works out at for ~€550 after you get the VAT back.

I'm assuming I can redeem the gift card on my Irish Google account, just currency converted? Anyone ever done this?
