    Sounds faulty. Never had that.

Assuming you havent unlocked the boitloader and rooted then I would remove the sd card and factory reset if its still crashing then its time to return it.

Just put in a sd card after my Moto phone was full - how do I incorporate the sd card as internal memory? Still can't update apps as phone says insufficient storage! It's a 64 GB Class 10 card. Do I need to do a factory re-set?

Just go Into settings and reformat it as internal. Then go into apps and move them.

Reformatted as internal, but still unable to move the apps - it doesn't give me the option, will I try a factory re-set?

Mount your SD card and it will be treated as internal storage. No need for moving anything.

That wasn't my experience. I had to format it as internal storage, then move apps already installed to it. Many of which won't move. Which is always a stupid limitation on android.

I think you can only use a max of 32GB when formatting it as internal storage

I've only tried 16 and 32. Actually one of 32 just died. Had to replace it.

Weird, I had the same problem with a 32gb sandisk from base.com. have emailed them for a replacement, it's hardly the phone killing these cards is it I wonder.

    Mine was a Lexar Professional microSDHC 633x 32GB UHS-I

Just random I guess. Never seen it before even on my old cards. I have its twin in a G4 be interesting to see if it survives. I replaced the one in the G3 with s Samsung. hardly matters I reckon.

Mines's a 64 GB San Disk, that's probably why it won't incorporate as internal storage!

After you've done this. I have no idea how to copy music and videos from your PC to the phone. Everything I've tried doesn't work. It looks like it's copied. But the phone can't see them.

    Any ideas?

    Quick way: Try this application: h t t p s : / / play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=burrows.apps.sdcard
Interrogation room time: Which version of Android you're using? Which kind of music files are you copying to the phone? (FLAC/MP4/MP3). Does your music application support it? Which music app are you using? Those files played before on same phone?

(sorry, newbie here, cannot paste direct links)

The phone has to be off when you insert the micro sd, turn it on, micro sd should be detected and you will be prompted asking you what you want to do, choose to use as internal storage. The phone should then scan to see what it can move to the sd card. After that the phone automatically works out where to save files to.

Well it didn't. I got those options but it moved nothing to it.

It's Android 6. I think that's the earliest version that supports using the sd card as internal memory.

The files are just regular files the phone could play them when they were on the card formatted as external.

I suspect i have to mount the phone as msc or such.

Have you tried formatting the SD on FAT32 filesystem?

The phone formats it for internal storage. There is no way to select filesystem.

Are you confusing it with external storage.

Oh, absolutely sure. Never used a phone with SD. Just wondering on the issue.
So you're left with what you've said:
Connect phone as MTP device via USB, then transfer

Also, You can try downloading another player and force media detection on a specific folder (I use Shuttle player - free version)
And you may try copying other media (photos) to see if phone can read it.

That's the problem. I've no idea where it copies too. It's not where id expect it on the android file system.

Anyone know where I can buy Moto G 3rd Gen at the mo? Glass cracked and it may be cheaper to buy a new one. Camera seems very good so reluctant to go for the 3E.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

I know its subjective, but I think the camera on the G3 isn't as good as the one on the G4. The E3 is 8mp but I don't think its that much different to the G3. I've not compared them directly though. or the G4 Play (8Mp)

Actel Idol 4 VR is about €99. Has a similar camera to the G4, maybe worse at night, but much better speakers. 3GB of RAM.

I tried to get another G3 and couldn't. Wanted it for the better water proofing.

Is it a standard SD card that you get for the phone?

Where can you get the best value SD cards?

Micro SD. Can be got cheap on Amazon and sometimes Argos have them going cheap. Just steer clear of ebay, you get a lot of fakes on there and need to be careful.
