Ah ****e, that's never fun. I'd say ditch the shoes, but you never know what you'll be walking on.

Devil's Elbow near Glencullen has been tarred and chipped with drifts of gravel on the corners. I was ascending which was perilous enough, but I'd hate to be descending that road.

This looks pretty cool - strong-ish lock that fits in a jersey pocket.

I'd be interested only for the combination element.

I suspect the security part of this table is disingenuous on a large scale:
    397276.jpg

(I'm fairly willing to accept that cable lock < ottolock < u-lock, but I'm also pretty sure that an ottolock is not 66.6% as secure as a u-lock, as that table implies.)

The lock may be strong, but anyone can open virtually all combination locks in about five minutes. And $44 for this? Urrpp!

For myself, I'd be interested in something to secure the bike while I'm getting a mid-spin coffee. Clearly not for locking a bike for any extended period.

If it's as strong as they say they is I would use it if I was letting the bike out of my sight to order coffee/toilet stop at a coffee shop etc. I wouldn't be using it as a main lock on the streets, just something stronger than using nothing while I am inside. Pricey alright but I'm tempted (if it's as strong as they say it is).

You can only buy 2 now. All the single ones are gone!

Same. Very handy for long solo spins if its light and gives you short term safety.

Would you care to meet for a coffee? Bring a combination lock and I'll show you how to open it within minutes. And I'm not generally a criminal mastermind. Someone showed me years ago when I forgot my combination.

    Ottolock again; FAQs:
You can cut through the OTTOLOCK bands with a powered angle grinder or hacksaw in several minutes.

That's an odd equivalence. An angle grinder will cut through pretty much any lock, however good, in several minutes. A hacksaw can cut through far lesser locks in several minutes.

I agree it might be a useful product if it's strong enough to let you leave your bike attended for a few minutes.

A skilled human can feel the way through a combination lock in several minutes, no cutting required…

If you're thinking of the method I'm thinking of, good machining makes that less likely.

Ah, well, perhaps so. I haven't yet found a combination I couldn't open, but it hasn't been a lifetime pursuit.

In Portugal; popped into a decathlon to see what they had for cyclists. No real high end bikes, but they did have an aluminium btwin with carbon forks, 105 derailleurs and shifters, and aksium wheels for seven hundred quid. Not bad.

I've had a quick look through the forum without much luck, and the search function is pants on the mobile app.

Does anyone have any experience of cycling with a child seat attached, and if so, what is the best combination of bike and seat?

Will be looking at a 8-9k trip each way with a two year old in Dublin city. Currently on a Felt Z6 for commuting but I am led to believe that carbon and a child seat are not very compatible.

Come to the demo at City Hall tomorrow (Wednesday 21 September) at 1pm asking for funding to be returned to Dublin cycleways, and you'll meet lots of people who can advise you:

Just back from Cancun and seen a good few cyclists over there. Don't know if it was because it was on a busy enough dual carriage way but all the groups of cyclists, around 8/9 in a group had a car driving behind them with hazards on. Don't know if this was required or was to make it safer but either way hope it doesn't end up being the way over here!

Leap cards can now be used for Dublin Bikes scheme

Nice to see a bit of joining up happening. Hopefully soon you'll be able to store everything on your phone.

    Wimps.....

Mystery of Irish tandem’s vanishing huge lead in Rio explained

    or maybe not......
“They got caught by strong bikes 50 metres from the top of steepest hill,” explained team manager Neill Delahaye.

“They needed oxygen and medical assistance as they had gone so deep into the red by the summit of the climb.

“They completely emptied themselves and were very close to getting a chance to recover had they got to the top of the hill amongst the other bikes.

They essentially did a 60-kilometre time-trial ending in a ramp test hitting 24 per cent gradient so couldn’t have done any more. It was a huge effort by them and they left it all out there.”

......that sounds absolutely fuppin' horrendous!!! Hopefully they've recovered well.

That Dublin Bike scheme boils my blood. This morning there was a van taking bikes from one of the Stations that's usually empty (James's Hospital). I was going to the Passport Office and when I got there 5 people were waiting to put bikes back at this spot so I ended up locking the bike and taking it back to the Green when I was done where I had to queue to put it back anyway.

The shifting van seems to work randomly with no forward planning

Jaysus. I wonder had they underestimated the severity of the ramp and made a bad decision to break from the bunch, or just had a bad day on the bike?

I took it as a 'slight' miscalculation - they maybe went a bit too early? And consequently they hit the hill without enough of a buffer to get over and still be in the lead?

Either way it sounds like pure unadulterated suffering - 60km in the heat at full gas with 24% hill at the end - I'm feckin' knackered just typing it!

Road design rejected because it doesn't comply with DMURS guidelines:
    http://irishcycle.com/2016/09/20/redesigned-access-road-to-galway-business-park-rejected-by-planning-board/

Has this ever happened before? Hope they keep rejecting insulting rubbish.
